    Question South Beach diet, anyone?

I've been reading a lot about the South Beach diet the last few days and I think that DH and I are going to try it.  I think I can stick to the first phase if I know it's only for two weeks.  My biggest problem will be giving up: my daily dose of Mountain Dew, flour tortillas, and baked potatoes.    DH won't mind anything but giving up soda.

Has anyone else tried this one?    Any advice?

I havent tried this but I did try Atkins...arent they similar?

I did ok on Atkins but I have acid reflux and the lettuce was killing me. You have to eat soooooo many salads on that I didn't last but maybe 4 days and lost about 4 pounds but I just couldn't keep on.It was torture for me.

I didn't have a hard time giving up sodas because I dont drink that many.I have maybe 1 pepsi a week. Now Dh had abad headache the entire time.He says he cant function without caffeine (Had to use the new one hehe)

I hated giving up bread.Dh hated giving up sodas and potatos.

I know the 2 are different.Do you know the differences?

Keep us posted on how it's going.

Well.... I'm still in the "considering it" stage, LOL! The more I read, the more concerned I got about being able to give up all the carbs/sugar cold turkey. So instead I've been cutting down my portions, getting more exercise, and trying to eat better overall. We're still thinking about doing it- we just haven't actually done it yet.

The book makes a big point of saying that this is NOT a no-carb diet... it only wants you to eat the good carbs instead of the bad ones. There are also many negative references to Adkins... the South Beach people don't want people to think that they're the same.

SBD involves three phases. In the first phase (two weeks) it is very strict-- almost no carbs, no fruits, etc. This is designed to clean out all of the junk in your system and supposedly stop your cravings for sugar. The second phase is a little more lenient, and that's where you stay until you've lost all the weight you want to lose. The third phase is maintenance.

Here's some recipe links I've collected while researching it:
