Talking Quick and easy way to remember to floss

    AND NO MIRROR SPLATS!!!!

Ok this may sound a bit gross but you know I like to do two things at once. I'm never in the bathroom without doing a sink clean or a mirror wipe.

Alrighty then, I keep dental floss in the drawer of the sink cupboard within reach of the toilet. When I'm in there in the morning, I reach over and pull off some floss and floss my teeth.

If you floss every day it's easy, no bleeding, and it's quick and simple to do without seeing your way in the mirror. Learning to do it "blind"

means no big splats on the mirror from those dental floss moments. (I still clean up after dd and dh though)

And daily flossing means healthy teeth and gums. It stops bad breath where most of it starts, in between teeth near the gum line.

and keeping healthy gums means lowered heart disease for some reason. Not to mention keeping your teeth longer.

YOU DON"T HAVE TO BRUSH RIGHT AWAY. I may brush later in the shower, or after breakfast. Breaking flossing away from brushing means I'm not making a rushed choice to only brush today, skip the floss till tomorrow.

If you can't stand my method, at least try to floss without looking, so you can floss at some quiet point in the day away from a mirror (watching a soap opera on TV, standing on the back porch surveying the grandeur of the back forty or at least your back yard)

LOL ok that last is a bit tongue in cheek (or floss in cheek)

but the point is to develop flossing as part of the daily routine and for me that didn't happen till I learnt this little trick which I'm now sharing.

    WHERE DO YOU FLOSS?

I floss in the car. I use those flossing devices- at home, I use the Reach Access, and in the car, I use individual ones, I feel bad about the waste, but I can't really use regular floss. I have very closely spaced teeth (even after years of orthodontia) and have actually gotten regular floss so completely stuck in there that I was worried I would have to go to the dentist to get it out. (Imagine me, late on a Friday night, of course, with floss sticking out of my mouth and DH pulling with all his might to try to get it out. Not really as funny as it seems!)

Using those one-handed flossers, it is easy to floss at red-lights and whil waiting in traffic. When I don't go out in the car, I just use the Reach at home.

I'm glad you mentioned the car, because that is another place one is often stuck, and little things like manicure kits or discreet dental floss arrangements help pass the time in a very useful manner.

I buy little picks that have floss on one end and a pick on the other, I got them at the dollar store, 100 for $1 and keep a pack in the house and one in the car.

    good idea.

the more you floss the longer you get to keep your teeth and the rest of your health improves too. I always remember an old bat of an instructor in nurses training

"Look at the teeth girls look at the teeth!" when she was talking about general health of a patient. She made the point and I've never ever forgotten it, that when tracking down mysterious bone and cardiac infections, the source was often the teeth or deep gum infections that got into the bone thru the gumline.

I love the little floss thingies that have the pick at one end and the floss at the other too. I have a few in a ziplock in my car and a few in the diaperbag as well in a ziplock. This way if we eat out, i have them in easy reach. I use them at home also when watching tv. I prefer the minty ones.
