Hypnosis?
Has anyone tried hypnosis (hypnotherapy) . How about self-hypnosis?
Did it help/not work/wear off ??
I tried self-hypnosis audio tapes that I listened to at night. I can't say definately that it didn't work because I was supposed to commit to listening to them for at least a month before I would see some positive results. I would often forget and not listen to them.
I also went to a group session (- BIG - group), and it didn't work for me or my Mom. She went to it for weight loss and I went to try to stop smoking. I couldn't keep from laughing through most of it and the hypnotist was mad at me. >sigh<
I'm asking because I do believe in some forms of hypnosis (not group) and in the past I also used to hypnotize people to help them break bad habits. I learned it from a book. I'm thinking about getting back into it again and my family is anxious to be my ginea pigs.
I'd like to hear about other's experience if you feel ok to share.

When I was pregnant with ds #1, I used hypnobirthing. It was awesome and really gave me the confidence to be relaxed during labor. The tapes at night put me to sleep in no time flat----not sure if that was their purpose....
But most of it was, if you don't believe you can have a natural birth, than you won't or can't; which was sort of a let down if you fail because it made it seem like it was all you.
Still, it was fun to attend the classes and hold pillows and listen to relaxing music. And I plan on dusting off the tapes for ds #2 coming soon, so I would say it was a success.

dndylfe- I'm glad you had a positive experience. That's wonderful that you were able to give birth naturally and be more comfortable thanks to your hypnosis tapes.
My tapes always put me to sleep, too, before I even got to the end of the tape.

I went to a licensed hypno-therapist to try and help get rid of some guilt I felt concerning some molestation in my early teens. It really helped! I did find out, though, that I had a lot of resentment towards my dad for something that happened when I was really young, an event I'd forgotten. I also used hypnosis to go to a past life! It was pretty cool, though it was in a group and not a one-on-one session.

I haven't but my dad was hypnotised to stop smoking and hasn't smoked in probably at least 15 years. He had quit on his on and started back when he gained weight. Then he decided to get hypnotized and quit, in the sessions they say something about your appetite and he managed to go it and not gain the weight that a lot of people gain when they quit.
