today's Dr.s visit (sorry its long)
Well, I had my annual exam since having Paige and going for my 6 week post delivery check up today. Some of you may remember during my first ultrasound that the OB discovered a cyst on my left ovary and since there was no pain or discomfort he said that it could be hormonal and might go away after the birth of the baby. Anyway, there were two times over the past 4 months or so that I was in considerable pain and didn't tell any of you
Sorry about that.
Rewind to April 15....I woke up that morning feeling okey and was trying to get our stuff ready to mail to the IRS. I got this very sharp pain in my left side (ab area) and at some points in time it felt like it would go around my side and into my back and as far down as my left knee. I managed to drive to the PO and talk to people on the phone (thru clinched teeth and trying not to breath while they were talking). If I was applying pressure then the pain decreased. Needless to say Joe got home from work that night to find me laying flat on my stomach and looking like heck. He got me some drugs, feed & changed Paiged and asked if I wanted to go to the hospital to which I said NO. At that point in time Paige wasn't sleeping thru the night so I was up about 4am almost in tears while I was feeding her. I drunk more water and took more motrin and later on that day I felt good as new. I said if it last another day I would go to the hospital or call my Dr. on Monday, but since I felt better I did neither.
Then coming home from my moms 2 weeks ago I started hurting again. The more fluids I drank and the more tylenol I took the better I felt and like last time after about 36-48 I felt good as new.
I told the Dr. about the pain and he poked around on my stomach and I told him about where the pain was, but with out it hurting I couldn't be to precise. While poking around he felt something on the right side. He takes me to the Ultrasound room and they look around and there is nothing on the left they they could see, however I now have a cyst on the right side but it didn't look like it was connected to anything.
My options were:
A) Make an appointment, stick a needle in and poke it or try to drain it, eventhough it might fill back up with fluid and come back
B) Stick a scope of some sort in my belly button and do surgery to remove it
C) Keep a look on it....as in come back in a month to see how its changed
I choose C. As of right now I go back on Aug. 29th, but if my left side starts hurting again I am to call and go in that day so we can better pin point where the pain is and see if we can see anything on the ultrasound machine.

Kat,
I've been MIA for a while, so I'm just now reading about your difficulties in April. I hope you find answers to all your questions soon and that you don't have to deal with any more pain!

Thanks Wendy....It's good to see you posting again. The Dr. wasn't really upset with me that I hadn't called him sooner since the pain only lasted a little over a day, but he told told me to call him the next time my side hurts like that again, and he will see if he can determine better what is causing it.
The bad thing is we think it might be connected to my cycle and if that's the case I guess it will happen again sooner than later.
At least he now know's so when he gets a phone call out of the blue from me he will know why...lol

Glad your taking care of you Kat. No fun these kind of problems.
Hope you get them all figured out & that it's a quick fix.

Kat~ I hope things are easily taken care of. I've read WAY more than anyone should lately on ovaries, cysts, hormones, etc. after having my own troubles ... it seems that there are tons of treatment options out there.

He also gave me the options of medication when I go back next month if I don't want to have to worry with surgery at the time.Originally posted by AmyMCGS

When they found the hormonal cyst on the left side while I was pregnant I started reading up on them as well....There is a lot they can do. Hopefully when I go back next month it won't have changed much....still trying to decided if I'd rather do medication, have it drained or have the surgery to remove it. At least I have time to think about it.

I know how painful that can be. I eventually had my left ovary removed after a lot of trouble with pain and cysts. I hope you get the right treatment for yours. Take care, Kat. I'll be thinking of you.

I told you you needed to have it checked! you can't work and take care of paige while you are in pain! And what if it hits really bad while you are driving!!!
You better call him at first sign, don't make me come up there

At least this last time I wasn't having to drive, but you should have seen me in April trying to get Paige around in her carseat and drive to the PO a mile away. Your brother said he knew I must hurt because I've never complained about anything like I did that day.....lolOriginally posted by voodidit
