Green tea and weight loss?
If you saw Oprah yesterday, you will know what I am talking about. She had Dr. Perricone on and he said that if you do nothing else in your diet, but stop drinking coffee and start drinking green tea, he promises you will lose 10 pounds in 6 weeks.
Perricone’s New Promise
“Whoo! That is great!” exclaimed Oprah.
“Dr. Perricone sure knows how to excite a girl”, I thought last week as I was watching Oprah’s, “Look 10 years younger in 10 days.” Dr. Perricone promised Oprah she’d lose weight if she would just replace her coffee with green tea.
Oprah couldn’t keep her excitement to herself, “I’m gonna do that. Okay. That is good!”
Dr. Perricone explained, “Coffee has organic acids that raise your blood sugar, raising insulin. Insulin puts a lock on body fat. When you switch over to green tea, you get your caffeine. You’re all set. But you will drop your insulin levels and body fat will fall very rapidly. So 10 pounds in six weeks, I will guarantee.”~*Michelle*~

I saw that. I like what he was talking about before that with the salad greens and chicken or turkey as well as fresh BRIGHT colored fruits and the salmon. I love salmon and eat it a lot when I go have lunch or dinner with Joe.

I saw that as well and was discussing it with my husband. I have tried switching to only green tea before and I had terrible headaches. Besides, I LOVE coffee. It might be worth trying though to lose 10 lbs...

Oprah just had the You the Owners Manual doctors on who said Coffee was a good thing. (mind you they were talking about antioxidents in coffee reducing cancer and heart disease risk and improving life span, not weight loss)
Moan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My worst asthma attacks happened the times I've quit coffee. It has a theobromine in there that mimics the old theophylline drug that was used before Ventolin was invented and is still used in emergency care of asthmatics in combination with Ventolin and others.
I think I'll put up with the 10 lbs and quit dieting if I have to give up coffee.

Did he say anthing about stopping regular tea drinking and switching over to green tea? I drink tea instead of coffee. Of course just cutting back on the sugar would help. I don't put sugar in my green tea.

From what I've read about caffeine, if you want to lose weight, the best thing to do is avoid it. I think on some of the low carb diets they want you to drink decaf coffee. It has something to do with the insulin.
I wonder if just drinking a bunch of water, and avoiding caffeine, maybe that would do the same thing.

DH and his mom were at a chinese restaurant one time (and they are both large people). The waiter told them to drink a pot of tea a day and they would lose the weight. It was green tea. So, maybe there is something to it! I have some and my reunion is in 3 months - I could stand to lose 10 lbs at least! LOL!

Green tea has a lot of great benefits. It has antioxidants which help fight cancer. There are probably good things in coffee, too, I just don't know what they are. Green tea does have some natural caffene. I think its about 1/3 the amount in coffee.
I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to switch from coffee to green tea, but I don't know if the 10 lbs. would acutally happen. For example, I drink one cup of coffee in the morning. If I replaced that with one cup of green tea it doesn't seem like that would make much difference. However, If I drank 5 cups a day, and replaced all those with green tea, then the weight loss seems more possible. I guess one of us is going to have to try it and see.

Yeah "The Green Tea Diet!" That sounds better then a grapefruit or cabbage diet.

I might give it a try. I drink a TON of coffee every day. Think in terms of pots not cups I know this is horrible for me and that I need to stop. I do like tea alot also but something about the coffee....Anyone else have input on this?

That is what I did to lose weight. I just started drinking nothing but water. I "weaned" myself from caffeine gradually.Originally posted by SHOPGIRL

I just bought some Kroger brand green tea and brewed a cup, then poured it over ice. It was the color of my beloved Mountain Dew, but, I didn't think it had much flavor at all. I'm going to have to experiment a little, maybe brewing it stronger or adding some sweetener.
