Healthly Eatting for a Healthy life...(what I've discovered)
Anyhoo, i have recently read a book, it's mainly about health connected to nutrition. i don't know how anyone else feels, but i'm quite sick of hearing about fad diets. And to be perfectly honest, i don't believe in diets at all. Healthy eating shouldn't be called a "diet" it should be called a way of life.
I guess i've always been interested in nutrition, i mean why all of a sudden, are children developing diabetes and obesity, why are so many adults over-weight and obese? Is there a way of living that could correct this, and why did it start?
1. Fats (not the evil they are made out to be)
- This only applies to some fats. Oils and liquid fats are processed, and are given additives such as coloring materials, flavorings, and other chemicals. This is so they look right, taste and pour right. Margarine is an example of these. Butter, is far better for u. Small amounts of unprocessed fats are good and necessary for for the proper assimlation of proteins and metabolism. *** If the label says hydrogenated, don't touch it*** Hydrogenization destroys vitamin E, and linoleic acid (a protein necessary for lecithin production. This process raises the need for choline and raise blood cholesterol.
(Quick fact) The process of hydrogenation for developed for manufacturing soap not food. It contains nickel, which is a destructive, heavy metal that clings to the walls of the arteries and contributes to cardiovasular problems.
2. Sugar and refined carbs (worse for you than u may believe already)
- Almost half of our diets consist of refined carbs (refined sugar, white flour, pasta, polished white rice, and refined cereals) Basically these are "anti-vitamins", 100% calories without vitamins. In order for the body to digest these refined substances they must "steal" vitamins and minerals from perviously ingested foods, thus depleting the mineral and vitamin content in the body. (this explains why they are 'minus' foods) When you eat natural foods with real starches and sugar, there are also proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, and enzymes. The release of sugar to the blood and other part of the body is slower.
(Quick fact) There are a slew of "enriched" products on the market. Think of it this way: "If Dracula drains your blood with his teeth, and gived you a vitamin B12 shot before he flies out the window, would you say that you had been 'enriched'?"
In the end, sugar is a foodless food. And it's in everything. It goes by many names; sugar, sugar syrup, glycose, cane syrup, dextrose, sucrose, invert sugar, cane syrup, heavy syrup and natural sweetner. ***If something ends in -OSE, it's a sugar***
If your wondering WHY sugar is in everything from canned and frozen foods, cereals, breakfast cereals, and salad dressings to be brief, it's because: "POOR QUALITY FOODS, HAVE POOR QUALITY FLAVOR, AND NOTHING WILL TASTE LIKE SOMETHING IF IT IS AT LEAST SWEET."
3. Roughage (it could save u from colon cancer and obesity)
- In WWII England, because of food shortages, the British were forced to use Brown-unmilled floor. Studies later found that diabetes cases had dropped dramatically. And other studies have found that certain diseases such as appendicitis, and cancer of the colon, are most prevelant among westernized peoples that those living on a more vegetable fiber diet. A bland diet, also doesn't provide enough stimulation to the colon.
(Quick fact) Not having enough roughage in the diet slows down the transit time before elimination, and may be the answer to some of the causes of obesity. Fiber pushes food though faster.
4. Carbonated Soft Drinks (Leading to a lifetime of Brittle Bones)
- Remember how Sugar leeches minerals and vitamins from the body. Well Soda in packed with Sugar. And few people stop at one glass. There is no calcium in Soda. And Americans aren't getting enough calcium as it is. So Soda not only doens't provide calcium and depletes it from the body.
5. Vegetables are GOOD for you...(But the way your cooking them may not be)
- Overcooking, and Boiling in too much water breaks down the vegetable, losing valuable nutrients. When you cook the resulting vegetable should be a little undercooked and crispy.
(Quick Tip) To cook veggies, steams at low heat with little water, Saute, with a little butter in hot pan, then add veggies, stir them to coat in oil. Cover pan, and stir frequently. Cook at low levels, until just soft when pocked with fork. OR, use Double broiler, boiler water a bottom of broiler, then place veggies in top portion. Don't use wire basket, or double broiler with holes, because it extracts water soluable nutrients.
6. Eggs (Give them a Break!)
- Did you know that eggs provide all important vitamins and nutrients (except for Vit. C) and one egg provides about 6 grams of protein?
(Quick Tip) If you are able to buy eggs from free running hens, these are the ones you should eat. They are called Fertile eggs and are from chickens who aren't cooped up in well...coops with other birds eating a scientifc blend of foods full of chemicals.
7. The Truth about Milk
- Pasteurized milk exsisted for one reason. It lasts on store shelves longer. In it's raw natural state, milk is extremely good for you, but when it's heated, a portion of Vitamin C is lost, there is also reducion of B-1 and B-12 vitamins. When heating animal protein such as in pasteurization, impairs the value of the protein. AND.. heating the milk causes the destruction of 90% of the enzymes that help the body ultilize proteins, fats, sugars, phosphorus, and calcium.
(Quick Fact) A calf cannot thrive on Pasteurized milk, because some of the elements are so changed that they become dangerous.
Of course, Pasteurization is done to destroy bacteria and nutrients, and cut down on the need for cleanliness.
(DID U KNOW??) That raw milk in tested daily, Past. in tested twice a month for cleanliness.. The Bacteria count for raw milk is 10,000 per milliliter, while past. is 50,000. Raw milk is given an anaerobic bacteria test once a wk, with Past. it's not required. Same for the Streptococci test in raw milk it's tested once a month, not requited in Past. milk....and it goes on quite a while.
As proven Certitifed Raw Milk is a lot better for u....
8. Salt...(there are differences u know...)
- All salt comes from the sea, and a certain amount of sodium is required in the body. But salt like other foods, is processed. And in that processing all the other minerials get thrown away. One reason that salt is processed is so it "flows" and doesn't get clumpy (especially in humid weather) so..the crystals are coated with sodium silico aluminate. But! Before this is done potassium iodide is added to the salt to "iodize" it, to provide the anti-goiter factor. Iodine though is very volitle- it oxidizes rapidly when exposed to light, so ANOTHER ADDITIVE is added, dextrose, a refined sugar, to stabilize the iodine in iodined table salt. These additives cause ANOTHER problem. In combination, potassium iodine and dextrose turn the salt purple. SO ANOTHER ADDITITVE IS ADDED. Sodium bicarbonate. It is mixed in to BLEACH out the color.
(Quick Tip) Natural salts are not free flowing. The least harmful process is to help salt from caking is to add calcium bicarbonate, so check the labels.
You CAN buy natural sea salt. Check your local health food or supermarket.
The best foods for you to eat
- Whole Grains (the more the better)
- fruits and veggies
- raw milk, butter, yogurt, cream...etc. (if u can buy it)
- eggs!
Remember u are what u eat!

I would also like to add that High Fructose Corn Syrup, and Soy (unless fermented) should also be added to the list.
