    Unhappy Smoking....

In amongst all the weight loss threads I wanted to add one about quitting smoking. I don't mind so much being chubby as I'm active and healthy ASIDE from my smoking. My blood pressure and heart rate is good etc...

I'm quitting tomorrow. September 1st. Anyone else trying to quit and want to buddy up? I've never made it past 4 months but, as we are starting a family in a couple of months, I *have* to quit.

    eek! Help!!

I quit Mar 21 2002. Cold turkey and never looked back. I know you can do it and feel free to pm me if you need support. Hugs!

Amid all my other bad habits, I used to smoke. I gave up cold turkey over 25 years ago when I was pregnant with my first child.

It's a tough habit to kick but if you've got a family coming along it's the perfect motivation. Good luck babs!

Thanks you two. I spent the afternoon in the waiting room of a doctor's office with my friend with copd. The respritory specialist was there and there were 3 other people in the waiting room on oxygen tanks. More motivation for me.

Also I did the math. If both my partner and I can stay quit we'll save 7300$$ a year!!!

According to your calculation that you'll both save $7300 a year if you don't smoke, it means that now on day 6, you've already saved $120!! What will you do with that money?

You are doing awesome Babs! DH and I both quit smoking. I quit almost five years ago and it took DH two years longer than I to quit. We both had to quit at our own time. I was just so sick of it! The smell, health reasons, the money, sneaking breaks etc. It was hard at times, but I really did want to quit so I just kept on going even through the rough parts. You can do it!!

    Babs,

You can do this!! I quit 1 year 9 months and 4 days ago! Cold turkey and with the help of self-hypnosis. If you need a shoulder, pm me.

Think how much easier it will become to breathe...think how less often you will get sick and if you do get sick how much shorter the illness will last and how less severe an illness will be! All true. I feel so much better and you will, too!

Thanks everyone! The money is going into a jar. My partner started smoking again (that's okay.... when it's time for her...) so I don't count that money anymore but I have a jar with 62.50$ in it. I'm putting it on our debt every month. I figure that our debt will be cut by about 4 months. Can you believe it?

I already breathing again. I'm off the ventalin puffers.... I'm not wheezing at night (or the day)

Tomorrow I start aerobics. Might as well use my new lungs eh?

    I'm soooooo proud of myself.

    Thanks for your support!!!

babs...Thats great!! I only smoked as a teenager (and every once and a while since if I'm drinking, which isn't very often ) so it wasn't like I smoked for yrs and yrs and had a old habit to break, but it was a little hard. You can do it!!

Maybe once your partner has seen how "easy" it for you, she'll quit to
