Perfume! What kind is your favourite, and second favourite?
Time for perfume talk.
This is always fun to review coming up to Christmas. The best sales on perfume happen now, and the sets come on sale too with the cologne, and some scented powders or lotions to match.
My all time favourite dates from 1934 and it's a classic. It's Elizabeth Arden's Blue Grass.
I'm liking Lise Watier's Neige as well, haven't got any but I've tried it out at the perfume counter.
I used to hate Chanel #5 and either they've changed it, or I've changed. I suspect it's me.
I love it now. I loved her #19 but it's really hard to get and dh never liked it. Too bad, it was my favourite, even more so than Blue Grass. No sense putting on scent that the dh hates unless you want to scare him away and I don't. Dh vetoed Chanel #5 as his mother wore it all the time, that and Elizabeth Arden's Red Door.
I sniffed Shalimar --another old classic perfume, but I'm not sure. There's something really nice about it, but it's got some spicy stuff in there, and I'm not a spicy gal.
I want to find Diorissimo because it is supposed to smell a bit like Coty's Muguet de bois which is lily of the valley and I loved that scent but they don't make it anymore. Another one supposed to smell similar is Caron's Muguet du Bonheur. I like the hand cream in Lily of the Valley from Crabtree and Evelyn but the perfume spray isn't pleasant after about 5 minutes.
here are some fun perfume sites: http://www.fashion-era.com/perfume_history.htm on the history of perfume. This site says something interesting. The older perfumes made before the 50's or so I think it was, tend not to make people sneeze but the newer ones with their complicated synthetic additions do.
and
here is Sephora's match maker in which you enter one of your favourites, and they give you some that you might like to try. http://www.sephora.com/browse/me/index.jhtml
And the grandaddy of perfume sites Guerlain: http://www.guerlain.com/index.asp?pa...parfum/&logo=1
Have some fun with me at the perfume counter????

Oh ladies, tell all, don't feel confined to just 2!
It's always fun to see which ones people like, and then go to the counters and try out the top favourites or the interesting sounding ones.

I never would have pictured you liking Poison. I'm not sure why, but I pictured you liking something more earthy or clean. I used to wear the Poison "knock-off" body spray when I was in high school. Now it's too sweet (?) for me.Originally posted by homesteadmamma

I love Estee Lauder's Beautiful, but I can't afford to buy it, and so I haven't had any since I got some as a gift in 1996.
More affordable, and one that I love just as much, is Avon's Sensual Embrace. I've gotten lots of compliments on that one.

Chanel 19 here too!!! I used to wear it in high school -- you know, the days when you have a job, but very few expenses!
DH and I have developed allergies. I haven't worn perfume in years ... maybe because the pollen and the cat dander just made any additional scent into an annoyance.
But DH is taking allergy shots; and my allergies are less intense in the Southwest.
Might be time to search for some Chanel 19 again!
BTW, I HATE Tabu. My mother had some -- and it made me sneeze! Some woman in church wore it too when I was a kid. Aaa-cho!2012 Knitting in progress

Margery, I jut LOVE my smellies and whilst I have to say my signature scent is ( and has been for a while) is "First" by Van Cleef and Arpels.
But I am not always "faithful"
and also have found another smell I like by L'Occitane en Provence L'oranger it is one I would like to try.........they do most of their other smellies in a Solid perfume too, but of course because I would have fanicied getting THIS one they don't do it in the Solid
Others I like are :
La Perla ( the orginal)
Chanel No 5 ( have a tiny bit of that left
)
Arperge by Lanvin
and paint me green and call me Gertie if I haven't gone all butch and sniffed a Mens Cologne I like
"Aqua de Palma" it wasn't very masculine and when I offered my wrist for Dh to sniff he liked it and seemed surprised it was a mans fragrance
It seems quite a few ladies like to wear it too
Generally I like the older fashioned smellies, the newer ones either smell the same or smell like furniture polish on me
"Pledge Eau de parfum" for that clean, fresh smell

I loved Victoria's Secret "Exotic Bouquet" body spray and lotion. However, they have a bad habit of discontinuing scents. I have almost a full body spray for special occassion only. One day I thought, "I'll check out ebay"--yeah, as of today it's $165 for a bottle of lotion. This is a consistant price for thisi product. Great. Once it runs out, it's all done for me. Bummer.
However, if I'm strapped for cash, guess I can sell my spray!
