Miracles do happen
My dh was found to have cancer about 4 years ago. He was found to be in the beginning stages and he started his first round of treatment not long after. His chemotherapy was a very low dose and he took it for a year, he had an 80% chance of a cure. He did very well on this with some but few side effects. Blood tests were taken after he stoped his treatment. It looked pretty grim the doctors started to prepare us for the worst. They explained to us that he was a "nonresponder" meaning that while he was on chemo the disease went away but the minute he stopped the cancer came back.
We were told his chances were dropped to 20% of a cure with a second round of chemotherapy but it might prolong his life. He finished this second round chemo in July of this year.
I have to tell you what we having been going through since we found out. I am 45 years old my dh is only 43 all of our dreams of retirement or any long range plans have not been discussed since the cancer was found. What has been discussed is how he would like to see our girls graduate from college, what I would need to do when he began to get really sick and needed care. Living wills and funeral arrangements and what was wanted by him. All of this is heart wrenching and very painful but needed to be faced before the cancer took over completely and while he was still fairly healthy. Financial plans needed to be thought of, I have been a sahm for 20 years now. I would need to go back to work. Emotionally draining all of it.
Yesterday my dh went to the doctor for the first time since finishing the last round. On his last visit the doctor was very pessimistic and did not think another round of the same chemo would be enough. He wanted for my dh to take some really nasty stuff that could kill him before the disease. My dh talked him into another round of the same, seeing as he did so well with the first one. Guess what??? The blood work was in (drum roll) he is clear, nothing! Notta was found!!! He is cured, he only has a 5% chance of it ever returning!!! He shocked his doctor, even he can't believe it. The doctor said he has never given the exact same chemo treatment twice on any patient before. (maybe we have something here) He thought it wouldn't work.
Today I am thanking God, our prayers have been answered, we have been given a second life. So anyone out there who is having a hard time or knows someone who is, keep saying those prayers. MIRACLES DO HAPPEN!
P.S. At 6ft tall my dh weighed in at 148 lbs. after he finished his first chemo treatment, he looked like he was starving to death. He now weighs a hefty 184 lbs. fat and happy just like I like him.
