I've been off tamoxifen for about 6 months now, after taking it for 5 years. I can personally say that I did not have any problems while taking this medication. Your oncologist will monitor you every 6 months, I'm sure. I know that the drug affects women differently. One friend of mine had to go off it because her blood pressure zoomed too high. That's why those check-ups are important! Interestingly, I had some problems getting OFF the drug though. I could feel my body doing all kinds of hormonal shifting and rearranging. It all seems to leveling off now, and I'm happy to be out 5 years now from cancer. Good luck to you!

Congratulations Midwestgal!
I just saw my oncologist last week. I have been on it for about 2 1/2 years now and I see him every 4 months for check ups. I agree, make sure you keep those appointments, they are very important and if at any time you don't like how you feel, call his office.
I am have extremely bad hot flashes, in the severe category. Not fun, but the alternative is worse, so I will live with them. Even though I had a hysterectomy, my gyn left me one ovary, so I am considered premenapausal. This is the only side affect that I have noticed.
Hope you stay side affect free, and Congratulations!
