    Default winter exercise

What does everyone do for exercise in the winter? I am not one to join a gym even though I have a friend who goes faithfully.
I am diabetic and in the summer I have no problem but in the winter I get really lax which makes it harder for me to control my blood sugar. I can walk for miles but I really can't stand the cold.

DH made a little workout area for me in the basement complete with tv and stereo. I have a treadmill and 5, 10 and 20 lb weights, a resistance band, a stability ball and pilates videos

I didn't do so well last year but this year I am holding myself to working out at least 3 times a week.

Outdoor winter activities include cross country skiing, walking, hiking as much as possible during a Canadian winter.

I also have a treadmill and use that faithfully throughout the winter. I put on xmas music and just drift away. My little ones come down and play in their play centre and dance to the music.

We also have a weight set, an aerobic step (I used to be an instructor) and many exercises videos ranging from step aerobics, kickboxing to yoga and relaxation.

Both myself and dh use our "home gym" everyday. In summer, we are outside running, biking, kayking, swimming, hiking etc. But during our Canadian winters, we spend a lot of time indoors in our gym.

If you are thinking about purchasing something to start a home gym or add to an existing one, the best purchase, I feel, is a treadmill. You can listen to music, watch tv or read while you walk or run on your treadmill. It was definitely our best investment for our gym. Now, we just try to add on as money allows.

    Good luck!

I'm not a gym person either, during the winter I like to spring clean and use a lot of energy that way - makes me feel good to have a nice clean and organised house when it's not such good weather.

I also like to have the radio or a cd on and have a bit of a jig about the place, gets the heart pumping and makes me happy, which in winter is half my battle.

It doesn't get real cold where I live, and I love the rain so I still walk outdoors and hike in the hills.

My brother has a home gym and I have asked him to lend me his treadmill. I really do not have a place to put this so I will wait until after the holidays to try it out. I do have a finished basement but I don't like it down there so I will have to put it in my dining room. Oh well anything for more time here on earth. Thanks for the sugestions.

At work there is a indoor two mile trail through some building that some coworkers and I try to do each day. This way we shake the fat and destress.

Our weather is pretty mild so I am lucky enough to be able to walk year round but I also have a treadmill and dh has his HUGE weight set-up thingy in our bonus room so there is always the opportunity to do some type of exercise year round.

when ds2 moves into be roomies with ds1 we are taking half of this room for the kids toys our crafts and the like, and the other half will have my recumbent bike and we plan on getting another piece of equipment or two. First things first though, gotta wait till ds2 is old enough to sleep in a big boy bed.

That's great It's so easy to just hop on one for even 15 min. Some exercise is better than none at all.

One of my favorite "toys" is a door gym. It's basically elastics shaped like a letter Y with pulleys. You can't do as much resistance work as, say, a Bowflex or something, but with a little creativity, you can get a more-than-adequate upper or lower body workout. It's also good for clutter-fighters like myself, as it takes up no floorspace.

I love to walk. I don't go to a gym, it's not for me and I don't want to pay for it. I try to walk every day. I have asthma so I have to keep my mouth covered with a scarf(My lungs and cold air don't get along ) When it's icy or snowy I do a tape.
