Anyone familiar with manual treadmills?

I have one that I aquired for free. It seems to be in pretty good shape, but I'm not sure what I should do to it regarding maintenance, or things I should be aware of with using it. I do notice that there is no way to walk "flat" on it, so everything is at an incline, which makes it quite tiring!

So, any tips, tricks, things I should be aware of when using it? I'd love a "real" treadmill, but I know I'm going to have to prove to DH that I'll use the manual one before we even think about forking out the $ for a motorized one, and I really really need to get this bod workin'.

Well, good luck. I had a manual treadmill, and I think I still have it. It's down in my parent's basement. I absolutely hated it. It is nothing like the motorized treadmill. It's so much harder and I don't think you really get much of a workout since it's really no fun to be on.

Ditto! We gave ours away. It absolutely killed my knees!

Dang.. that ain't helpin'! LOL!!! I need to find a way to make this work for me for at least this winter. *sigh* Hopefully I can convince DH that we can afford a motorized treadmill sooner rather than later... but since I'm doing the budget, I know thats unrealistic
