I want to encourage all FV'ers to have a colonoscopy
I know it's not a pretty subject or anything that we want to talk about but I found out today that by having one, I was spared the awful prospect of intensive cancer treatments.
As I posted earlier in the support forum, I had one done but really didn't think I had anything to worry about. I got the pathology report today and learned that I had cancer. The good news is that we caught it early enough that the removal of the polyp was all the treatment I'll need. I am having a follow up barium x-ray done on Tuesday and will have to have another scope done in a year but that is no big deal. For anyone who is 50 or older, has a family history of colon cancer (as I did), or is having any of the symptoms of possible colon cancer PLEASE, PLEASE (!) see your dr. and schedule a scope. I promise you won't be sorry. My dr. said that if I had waited another year, it may have been too late. (I have to tell you I came very close to not having it done, very, scarey close......)
The symptoms of colon cancer are:
Bleeding, mucous, change of bowel habits (even subtle ones).
Please take care of yourself while you are able. It's the most treatable and curable cancer if caught in time.

a freind at church got diagnosed the other year at Christmas, she had the surgery, had a chunk of bowel removed, it hadn't metatastisized yet, and she has passed all her tests with flying colours since she finished the chemo 2 yrs back. She is expected to continue healthy now, it's gone. No tumour markers found at all since.
One of the happy stories of survival because of early detection.
Way to go Lisa, and who knows how many lives you'll save by encouraging others to go get the test.
You rock!!!

Thanks Margery. It's not a pleasant subject but I feel moved to encourage others to do it. Ya know, it's such an easy test as medical tests go. Now the preparation....I didn't exactly enjoy that but the test was a breeze.

My last one was in June 01.I need to have another because he did removed some polyps...3 I think....1 kind didnt cause cancer, the other 2 were cancer. My Dr told Steve within 10 yrs I would've been very sick with colon cancer.
Colon cancer is in my family so I went and had mine done.My aunt Donna had colon cancer that spread to her ovaries...they removed a basketball size tumor from her ovary! and some lymp nodes. She wasnt expected to live long,or if she did get better it would come back within 5 yrs...well she been cancer free since 1998
