Does your pharmasist discuss your medication and side affects
Shopper's Drug Mart is one of the best pharmacies we purchase prescriptions at. Not only do they discuss our medication, they also print out a full page in regards to the medication and all side effects.
The smaller pharmacy in the next town over takes little time to discuss any medications.
How about your pharmacy?

Well, I do have my own live in pharmacist .... but the company he works for has strict protocol. Patients/customers are always counseled by a pharmacist (and given any additional printed info) when they pick up meds.

I really like our pharmacist. He works for Costco here in town, and all over Kamloops you hear people who like him.
He is very good at telling this stuff in words people can understand, and he listens and asks about any natural remedies/herbs you might be on that might interact.
He is great.

Yes, I use CVS and they always ask me if I have questions pertaining to a script. I never do because I have been on the same meds now for quite some time and you always get a print out of the drug with any interactions and side effects.

It is always given in Texas. I believe it is a FDA requirement that the pharmacist gives patient education either vocally or by information printout. If your pharmacist needs to speak with you regarding your medication it is a HIPPA law that they have to do it in a private area where your health information is private.

I also go to CVS - they always ask if I have questions, and I usually decline (I try and ask the doctor before its prescribed). In addition, we get a whole print-out with the drug information with our prescription.

I always printed info and they always ask if I have questions. A long time ago a pharmacist caught a possible drug interaction my doc. missed.

Yes, she does. I recently had a perscription for advair because of my asthma. My pharmasist told me to be sure to wash my mouth out after inhaling it or I could get a fungal infection in my mouth.
My Dr. didn't tell me that!

I am pretty sure that it is a federal law... But don't quote me... I did work for a pharmacy, and the pharmacist was always told if it were a new medication for the patient... Even if it were an antibiotic they had taken last year, or last month, if it were a new "hard copy" (new RX on a prescription pad) of a prescription, the pharmacist HAS to counsel you... If it is something that you take monthly and the dosage hasn't changed (like my sons insulin) they usually just ask if I had any questions...
With the whole thing about the pharmacist letting you know about a side affect that the DR. did not mention, maybe the DR. did not know about it... Think about it, pharmacists go to college to know the drug... The DR. goes to school to know what general drug will work for that ailment.. It doesn't mean they know the makeup of the drug and little things like rinsing your mouth out to prevent an infection in the mouth... I trust my pharmacist about my meds more than my doctor.... She has caught some mistakes the DR. has made, and would not let me get the RX until she cleared it up with the doctor...
These were only observations I have observed in Oregon.... Please know things could be different in different states and countries.... If you have any questions about a medication, by all means ask the pharmacist.....Bonnie mom to
