Default Caring for an ill friend or loved one

    Patient Care

    Soiled Pillows
Put several pillow slips on the pillow at one time. The ill person can remove
    one as cover becomes soiled

    Heavy Blankets
Place a medium sized box under the covers. Cut a "U" shaped channel through
the box. Slide the feet through the channel. The box will take the weight of
the blanket even when resting on your side.

    Drinking in Bed
Use a straw, do not fill the cup or glass more than half full. You may
purchase a plastic coffee cup with lid and small hole originally designed for
use in automobiles. This plus a straw will certainly make it easier for your
    patient.

    Food Choices
Create a daily menu and let your patient check off their choice. When you are
sick you often don't want to eat, providing choices may stimulate their
    interest.

    Serving Food in Bed
Place a damp cloth on the plate. Soaks up spills and reduces sliding dishes.

    Refreshing Wash in Bed
Provide damp wash cloths in a bowl near the patient for periodic washing. A
touch of cologne or mens after shave might add a special touch for your
    patient.

    Vomitting in Bed
Keep a large dishpan type container near the bed, along will a damp cloth.
Might save a major clean up.

    Ice Water/Coffee/Tea
Keep a large jug of ice water and possibly a coffee thermos urn (pre-mixed)
at bedside. Saves ongoing trips back and forth.

    Patient Activities
Books, Television and Radio for the sick. Tender loving care and things that
keep a mind occupied. Providing these activities for your patient will
certainly make them feel better. A televison remote control is a must.
