Check out www.clinicaltrials.gov for trials being run in your area. I heard about it on the radio, and the trial they were recruiting for was paying subjects $50/day just to visit the lab, and was also conducting a full physical exam and bloodwork for free on all participants. I checked it out, and some of the trials in my area were for pretty straightforward things (testing out the new flu mist rather than vaccination for efficacy in healthy adults, memory loss, etc.). Others were for very specific diseases, but might be a free way to get some medical assistance/treatment.

Thanks for the link - the only studies currently open in my area were all for HIV infected pregant women/recently born babies, but I'll keep an eye out for future studies.

My mother actually participated in one for a menopause drug to reduce hot flashes - and not only did she get re-imbursed some $$, but the drug really helped her.
