    Unhappy The Dentist

I have put off my dental work for over a year, I had an appointment today to get 4 fillings all at once. I get so nervous, I can't sit still, my lip qwivers. They had to numb both sides, the minute they were finished I jumped up out of that chair, and almost fell over...I was so dizzy. I have had a couple dentists hurt me before....but not this one. I feel bad for him, because he nows I don't trust him...I was in that chair for 2 hours, I'm so glad it's over, but I'm still nervous. Does anyone else have this same problem??

I don't like the dentist either & as I get older it's getting worse. Can't hold my mouth open like I used to, lol. I do like my dentist tho, he's very kind. Just am so glad when I'm done & out of there.

Thanks for your understanding. After I calmed down, I decided I needed some special me time. I had a 10.00 gift certificate for Barnes and Noble....found a nice journal and another sale book, I only spent .96 cents. It was a beautiful sunny day, I somehow didn't notice till after getting home. I sat in the sun and read my book, I came in later soaked in the tub and really enjoyed the rest of my day. WOW I feel so much better.

I was told last time I went to the dentist and had an anxiety attack that the numbing medication can cause your heart to beat faster which in turn can cause the attack. I had to be put on oxygen the whole time they worked!

I have never had a problem (of course, I've always had a good dentist!) but DH had the same problem. It wasn't until we were sitting around one day and he handed me half a tooth that "just fell out about a minute ago" that I MADE him go to a dentist. I know that he went for two cleanings just to get rid of the plaque and whatever BEFORE they would get to the surgery (he had to have 4 wisdom teeth plus two extras removed).

I don't know if it would work for you, but I just kept reminding him how much worse it would be if he didn't go. Sometimes I can make myself do things I dread by reminding myself of the alternative.

I detest the dentist. I start hypervenelating and gagging when the novacaine comes. I use a dentist that will give me a gas first.

I had a cleaning yesterday and she said I needed a crown. I could fill it she said but it likely wouldn't hold. I was hesitant and she said I know your half is 550 but you shouldn't worry about the $$$, you have great teeth and this is your first restoration besides fillings as a kid and when we fixed the little chip last summer from your accident on the trampoline.

I told her it was more fear of the proceddure than the $$$!!!!!!! EEEEEEEEKKKKKkkkkkk. Though it wont be fun saving up for that at all with both kiddos also nedding orthodonics.

My fear seems to get worse each time, I now he can prescribe a valum for the next time... of course this isn't covered under insurance, but at least I now the option is there. Well my dental work is all up to date and only have a cleaned for next time. After hearing about being on oxygen and all that, I should feel pretty lucky. I realize at this moment how important it is to just keep those appointments and not let them pile up....2 hours in that chair was just way to long, and the expense of waiting can really add up. My insurance is pretty good as long as it's preventative care....once it goes past that you really pay big.
This visit cost me $417.00, at least I had that much in my emergency fund.
Thanks so much everyone, sometimes it just helps to talk about it.
