    Diet Soda Weight

Chances are if you're cutting calories you're reaching for a diet soda. But hold that can! It may be a fattening habit. 7Healthcast Reporter Dr. Deanna Lites has more.

Diet soda may be fizzing with trouble for your waistline.

Registered dietician Laurie Meyer says, "Diet sodas came into being to help us lose weight and in fact they actually are causing some people to gain weight."

The latest study tracked 1500 soda drinkers for eight years. Forty- seven percent of people who drank regular soda became over-weight in
hat time. While 57 percent of diet soda drinkers became overweight.

Don't most people drink diet soda to avoid calories? The study found diet drinkers are often over eaters. They may be saving calories in their cup but make up for it on their plate.

The study showed, the more diet soda you drink, the more likely you are to have or develop a weight problem. This pseudo sweet stuff creates real cravings for sweets. It can change the way your body uses sugar.

The findings could even make die-hard diet drinkers change their ways. Diet experts say the best way to quench your thirst is to drink water. The recommendation is eight, eight ounce glasses a day.

I've also read that your body can't tell the difference between diet and reg. sweetened drinks. When you drink a diet drink or something with aspartame or other sweeteners that you go through the same physiological responses. Your liver excretes more insulin just like if you'd had sugar. It makes you hold onto the calories harder in everything you eat with and after. Another good reason to drink only water.

I have studied this phenomenon in depth. I do believe the problem lies more with the acidity of the soda as opposed to the artificial sweetener (which has different concerns). Raw foodist knew this long ago.

The body is overloaded with an acidic foods/drinks- but our body is suppose to be more alkaline. pH balance. Water is 7.0. Sada 2.3. Blood 7.3

Fat is the buffer system for all that extra acid, which is toxic to the body. If too much is consumed and can not be neutralized- then it is stored as fat. Consider fat to be your life saver in this instance.
