Gastric Bypass Surgery ??
I had gastric bypass surgery at the end of June and wondered if there were any others out there who had also had this surgery... I have lost 25 lbs. in 5 weeks.

If you have, I would love to hear from you!

Thanks!
Michelle
P.S. Congratulations on the weight loss! I would give anything to be able to lose that much weight.

Congrats-I have discussed this option with my dr and think it is really something to consider, but I am just not ready for the lifestyle change that will accompany it. Good for you, I do envy you for doing it.

Please take this as a question(cuz it is)
Why couldn't or didn't you just eat the smaller portions like you are now that you have to?
Is it just cuz now you can't over eat, and if you do you vomit?
I see storiies of people who have it done and they love it cuz they are slimmer and healthier and eating better.
and I always wonder why they just couldn't eat healthier and less with out the sugery.
Thanks

Congrats on the weight loss.
I to have been thinking of this...but to chicken to go for it.
Can I ask if your Ins covered it? I've heard some horror stories but I guess that goes along with any surgery or procedure.
Have you lost anymore weight since first posting this?

Yes, I have lost more weight. Since June 25th, I am down 42 lbs. and am doing super! I weighed 230.6 the day before surgery and wore a size 3X. Today, I went shopping and bought a pair of size 18 jeans and I can also wear an XL in tops!
My insurance paid all but about $400 out of my surgery which was around $25,000 total.
Let me know if you want to know anything else!

Rhonda, I have a friend who had it done and has lost 90 lbs. in the last 10 months. That is really not as drastic an amount as some, but still impressive.
What I want to ask you is have you had or heard of anyone with kidney complications after the GBS? My friend has failed 3 kidney function tests and there is no family history of it in her family? Her dr. said it is a side effect of her surgery, but it's not serious enough to do anything other than monitor. Just curious.

Wow congrats to you!
I had concidered getting that done when I was 100 lbs overweight, but thankfully my last attempt at dieting worked( 46 lbs gone since end of April) I am glad that I didnt have it done, I couldnt imagine changing the rest of my life that drastically to loose weight, but thats just me.
I have heard bad things about the surgery. In fact a month or so ago one of the well known OB/GYNs commited suicide because of the surgery he had done a few years ago. I guess the suicide rate is high among ppl that have it done, although I am not exactly sure why...........
