That is so wild! Did you have fim checked for the seizures. It's not usual for children to have seizures.

Do you still go into shock easily?

My son seems to have a very high pain tolerance for most things. I think he just went into shock those two times because he hit the "funny bones" which I believe is where nerves are clustered (correct me if I am wrong).
I avoid the emergency at all cost. They are so overcrowded in the lowermainland and anything that isn't "lifethreatening" could leave you sitting ALL day there. I am not kidding.

MY Dh has a low pain tolerance and will pass out very easily (good thing he doesn't have to go through labor LOL)!

So sorry for your big scare. I really would take him for a checkup, if only for your own peace of mind.

Hollyhill, my husband has the same thing. The first time I found out about it, we were rock climbing, he tripped and smashed his knee into a huge boulder and turned to me just in time to say "sometimes when I hit my knee I pass out" right before he keeled over on the side of the cliff!!! I caught him just in time, and yes, there was the little seizure thing, but he woke up quickly. Scared the heebee jeebies out of me!

Afterward he was a little disoriented, the same symptoms as low-blood sugar, but it doesn't happen very often. It's been happening since he was a kid and I'm sure he's mentioned it to his doctor, who didn't seem too worried. It's only a problem if it happens in a dangerous place, like hiking or when he's alone.

Just keep an eye on him!

    Oh Rebecca!

I read your message to my kids while they were eating lunch and when I read the "heebie jeebies" part they burst out laughing so hard and my 14 yr. ran to the bathroom spraying milk through her nose.LOL And my 11 year old wanted to see how heebie jeebies was spelt LOL!

I had just bumped into a dad I know who happens to be head of emergency and mentioned the incident to him.
He said it is very common for men to faint from pain because their blood pressure is different than womens (it is more common for women to faint from heat). The seisure is also very typical. It happened he said because my Ds fainted first onto the table so his head was too high. the fainting response is to get the head low down quickly to gain recovery....because he fainted with his head "high" the rapid blood presure drop caused a slight quick seisure.

Rebecca perhaps your DH had his head held high too?

And it makes sense... my Dh fainted when he hit is nail with a hammer.

It is a good point to remember about fainting in dangerous places though!!!! Boy oh boy! It is something ALL men should be aware of if they really smacked a body part in a dangerous situation.

I still have some problems with it, last year I was using an exacto Knife to cut a box for a craft project. I drove that blade all the way to the handle into my forearm......I went into shock, I ran for a towel and then I hit the kitchen floor. It was a deep puncture wound, but the knife was so sharp that while sitting in the waiting room at the emergency room it stopped bleeding. They gave me a tetnis shot and slapped a band-aid on it. I also have to be super careful in the sun, and always have water with me. I love the sun, but if I don't drink my water I can pass out. I have never experienced a seizure though.

I am so honored that milk shot through her nose!!! That's like the gold standard of funny!

The next time it happens (it's been a couple of years) I'll be sure to elevate his feet. I'm sure that's exactly what happened. Thanks!
