    Default May 2 Surgery Successful!

I had my incisional hernia repaired Tuesday morning, spent just one night in the hospital, and came home yesterday.

I was very scared, even though surgeries are nothing new in my world (6 in as many years). The surgeon couldn't be sure what he was going to find until he got inside. The "hole" inside was about 3" in circumfrence. That's big! My incision is 7.5", vertical down my chest and tummy. At only 5'2", it's a lengthy incision as well.

I am taking pain meds and they are working pretty well. While still in the hospital I got up and walked the halls every few hours...I believe it's important to get out of bed ASAP and start moving.

I have a restriction list as long as my arm...no lifting, pushing, pulling, driving, working, etc. Other than sleeping (doing plenty of that right now), I hope to get some schoolwork done. I have a summer residency in July, so I am trying to complete my assignments for that.

Just wanted to share the happy news!

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. My mom came to visit me today and brought me flowers (adorable "tie dyed" daisies) and a super comfy PJ set. I love little surprises like that.

DH is catching up on his rest. He has to pretty much run the household (and take care of me!) while I'm on the mend.

It's good that he's making the effort. Hopefully in a few weeks, when you're better, the house won't be too bad for you to take over.

Oh, to be fair I should mention we have a cleaning service that takes care of the major stuff. This is partly because my health isn't stellar, partly because not wanting to spend our precious "together time" scrubbing toilets, and partly because I am very particular about the house. I hope that doesn't sound mean, but I'm sure some of the other ladies can relate!

It's little everday things like not being able to lift a laundry basket, load the dishwasher, unpack groceries, etc., where he has to step in all do it all for a while.

In this early stage of recovery, I require a full night's sleep plus two solid naps. Very odd since I'm normally an insomniac. Surgeon says sleep time is when the body heals most. So sleep I shall!

It sure is , sleep is the best medicine. When I got my gallbladder out last May, I got as much sleep as i could, thank the Lord kids were still in school. So I only had to deal with myself allday, I would try to be super woman again. lol
Take care, glad your on the mend.
