ok you guys, I know I have praised this before but I'm telling you it WORKS!
I use a thing called a Neti Pot. It cleanses the sinus passage. It is gross but I have not taken a allergy pill or asthma pill in nearly a year. I got mine at a health food store. Here's a link to explain what it is and does.

    yes.

I've been doing nasal washing for a few years now, and it does help. You don't need a neti pot, but its a lot easier to use than some of the other methods. I think it's a conveniant way to do it.

Just FYI, my oldest dd has been having major problems too and it's been turning into bronchitis everytime. So her dr. put her on a nose spray that has really, really helped (it's a nasal steroid). I'd try the netti pot first though.

To use the neti pot you make a saline solution of 1:8 ration UN iodized salt and h2o, pour it in one nostril and it will come out the other. You need tohold your head at a certain angle over the sink. It is not for everyone but I have turned several people on to this and it has worked for most of them.

I think it was about $18. Well worth every penny. The best part is I'm not loading my body with un-nessessary drugs.

i have horrible sinus problems. for the past 2 weeks i have had horrible sinus headaches, with tons of pressure above my eyes, nose & cheek bones. everyday i have to take a claritin. it does miracles i swear. mine is alot of allergies & sinus put together. but i have heard that nasal sprays help out alot (flonase, astelin) all of those are prescriptions. well best of luck!!

Wow never thought Id see something like this posted for sinus problems but I mean if you have a sore throat, you gargle right? Same principle.

Margery I read the other thread you posted back in 2004 still not sure how to um 'inhale and exhale' the water w/o swallowing it - maybe I didnt understand how you worded it?

Also, EAR CANDLING - you buy them at a natural or health food store they're roughly $1.50/each and you need about 2 per ear when you first start. I wont go into the details on how to do it unless someone asks but I know that when I did it the first time (only done it twice now) it cleaned up all the sinus dust for me relieveing me of my sinus pressure headaches, making my nose less runny daily from allergies and generally opened up my nasal passages. I felt like my head had been cleansed

The only down fall was that I was very sensitive to air pressure changes for the first two weeks after my first time and then only half to one week after my second. Im going to do it about once or twice a year depending on how I feel - as needed kinda thing.

Also, as silly as this is, I drink a cup of ice cold water each day with 2 tsp of apple cider vinegar - clears up nasal congestion - doesnt let it stick up in there and phlegm in my chest too - all from allergies. Helps my body with other benefits as well.

So far Im not doing so bad - hope your sons getting better!

What I do most of the time now, is this:

I have a low flow hand held shower head. I aim it up my nose while blowing out gently.

It's not what I'd recommend to start with, that took practice. I started by sniffing the water in a bowl up my nostrils and then blowing it out. You stop sniffing when your nose is full. Easier done than said. Tilt the head forward not back, so it doesn't run down the throat.
