He has a cold in his eye. I'm not sure what that means. What are his symptoms. Is his eye red? If you pull down on his lower lid, is it red and swollen? Is there drainage? What color and is it thickish or thinish? Is his eye stuck shut in the morning? Does it itch? Is he rubbing it a lot and causing it to be red and swollen? Is it just one eye or both?
A nice warm wash cloth and some artificial tears won't hurt anything. It would be better if you could be more specific.

Angie,
I'm with Blessed on this. Are you sure it's not pink eye? I've had that a few times and it requires special eye drop antibiotics. If it's not an infection, I suggest rinsing the eye with cool water, or warm if it helps more, but if it doesn't go away in a day or so he should see the Dr. Eyes are nothing to mess around with.
Good Luck!

hello ladies, thanks for posting. its not pink eye, because its not itchy like pink eye. its red & bloodshot with eye boogers. he put some visine in it & it cleared up for about a hour or so, then it looks the same now. and yes the upper part of the eye lid is swollen. i hope i gave you the info you wanted. thanks again!!!

If the visine helps, then use it. Do NOT use tap water to rinse the eye. If it is a slight infection, that can make it worse. Get some artificial tears or Lacrilube Ointment or something to keep the gunk rinsed out. Warm washcloths might help healing because they will increase circulation to the area slightly.
If it doesn't get better in a day or 2, or gets worse, if he becomes sensitive to light, or his vision blurs, make an appointmet to see a doctor, please.

I had pink eye a few months back. I sliced a raw potato and put it on it with tape. Went to bed and it was way cleared up by morning. Did it two more times it was gone.

Baby shampoo
Try washing the eye with babyshampoo. Hope this helps!
You might want to "purell" everything to keep it from spreading. Don't forget the favorite pen and computer keyboard.Last edited by LastDragonfly; 07-24-2006 at 10:18 PM. Reason: another thought

I've had pink eye several time, with the last time being the worst. I'm glad your DH went to the doc. Pink eye is just a term for a bacterial eye infection. I guess I don't fool around with the eyes because I've had some pretty serious issues with my eyes in the past and could have lost sight in one eye if not for a very knowledgeable opthalmologist.

I'm glad he went to the Dr. Baby shampoo will help soften the gunk, or unstick his eye in the morning.
Raw potato! Whoda thunk! Awesome!

I've had pik eye once in my life and that was last year. Mt Dr didn't give me the eye drops. She said warm wash cloths. It went away in about 5 days. I agree with everyone else, The eyes you don't mess with. They are to important.
Yes I'm out of my mind. It's a dark and scary place in there.

Actually, pink eye isn't an allergic reaction. It's an infection. And DO NOT use saline solution! It stings. I have pink eye now and used it!

I always keep the generic version of polysporin eye drops in the house just inacse ,works the same and half the price. if u can get any kind of eye infection in time then u can keep the spread to the minium. Plus my hubby and his family all went to the woods and many times wouldnt wear eye glasses. so i always have on hand incase the drops for the irration and if there wanst any major splinters in the eye.
