Skin Tags
I was wondering if any of you knew how to prevent skin tags. Also, how do you get rid of them. I've been told to cut them off, but I'm not sure if this is okay.
Thanks for your input.Robbin

I'm not really sure. Just be sure they ARE skin tags. My oldest two currently have something called "Molluscum" which looks like a bunch of skin tags, but actually isn't. They have to go away on their own.

A lady that works with me has skin tags. She gets hers cut off at the doctor's office. I would check with a doctor.

I have a couple and was told I could just take care of it at home since some insurance probably won't cover it. The theory was it is a cosmetic procedure. Anyway I did have a couple tinies on my neck that I did-since they were so small it didn't sting too badly and haven't been back since. There are some larger ones I want done but don't have the guts to do it myself.

I've had a few in the past. I got one of those rough bath sponges they sell in the cosmetic sections (the tan kind that don't soften up a lot when wet). I put soap on it and scrubbed the tags with it. It took them right off. Of course, they were small. I'm not sure what would happen if they are larger skin tags.

You really should have a doctor remove them, because they can bleed heavily...most insurance will not pay for them, but dh was told by our doctor that they will remove as many as he has for 150.00...ask your doc if they will do the same...as for what causes them, dh was told that friction can cause them, and heredity...I don't think you can prevent them..Good luck!!!

I get them and I have cut them off myself. It's important to sterilize your scissors (you can do that with an open flame for a few seconds, let them cool before you snip though), I use an ice cube to deaden it with, wipe with alcohol, snip and then use the alcohol swab again and then a styptic stick (sp?...what men use on shaving knicks) to make it stop bleeding. A little later I'll put a dab of anti biotic ointment on it. Keep an eye on it and use that again if you need to. They do sometimes come back, but it's not a huge deal to snip them off.

Thanks for all of your replies. They just drive me nuts!!! Although, if this is the worst problem that I ever have, I am doing great!

My doctor did say I could cut them off.
I think I will see if my mom will help me this weekend. She is very gentle, and besides I would probably severly damage myself since I can't see all the way under my arm pit. LOLRobbin

I get these. I have had the Dr. cut some off, and some I have cut off myself. It is not hard, and doesn't hurt much. I just use a small pair of (sterilized) manicure scissors that I bought just for this purpose.

Please have a doctor remove them. We do it at work in the office all of the time, but sometimes they have a bleeder in them.

I get them now and then. I just have my dermatologist take care of it. Last time, he just cut it off.
