    Default Received an unwanted call

from my doctor this week. It was very unexpected. A little bit of history.....I went for my yearly physical in June. My doctor informed me that I was going to have 2 pap smears during the exam. One of the smears was the older version and one would be a newer version. I received the little card in the mail telling me everything was normal. I never had a second thought about it until Wednesday when I received a call from my doctor, not her nurse. She informed me that the old way showed that everything was normal, but the newer way showed that I had some atypical glandular cells and I needed to return in September for another visit. She tried to comfort me and tell me that we will take care of this and try not to worry. OK! SURE! I am really trying to stay positive, but my sister and mom both had the same thing. The good thing is that they both caught it in time and had ended up having a hysterectomy. My sister found out about 2 years ago that she had cancer and ended up having the surgery and some chemo to rid hers. She always had a normal pap smear, but persisted with further testing because she had some pain. Thank goodness she did. My sister informed me that I needed to make sure the doctor knows the family history when I return in September which I plan to do. I hope that with this information that they will proceed a little quicker with testing.

I am going to stay positive and believe it was just a lab mistake. I am taking it one day at a time.

{{HUGS}} You are not alone. 20 yrs ago (I was 23) my pap test came back showing abnormal cells. I had to have cryosurgery and everything has been fine until this past March. I went for my annual pap and once again it came back with abnormal cells. My Dr had me come back in and he did a colposcopy and two biopsies. Thankfully the biopsies came back negative for cancer, but the abnormal cells were still there so I had to have cryosurgery once again. I recently went back to have my 3 month follow up pap and the results came back that I still have atypical cells. I have another pap set up for the end of October.... I'm hoping and praying this one will come back normal.

Please feel free to PM or email me. You are in my thoughts.

Sorry you have to go thru this Michelle. I had some of the problems & surgeries like Joy did a few years ago, this being a woman can really be a pain sometimes.

Sounds like your doc doesn't know about the family history, I'd call her back and see if she can do anything to get this going sooner, not because I think there is something way wrong but just to allieve your anxiety with the waiting. Waiting and wondering is the pits. Big hug and it's going to be ok.

Also try to remember that although they always need to be re-checked, abnormal cells don't always mean anything. I've had abnormal cells before, but they always turned out to be nothing on repeats.

Sending hugs your way Michelle. I know what you are going through. I had my hysterectomy when I was 37. Just remember they aren't always sure themselves, and check and recheck to get a fool-proof answer, and whiling all of this is going on you are worried out of your mind. Stay strong and keep busy.

Michelle, I am sorry to hear that you have to go through this, I can relate. A few years ago I had a mole that was changing size and color a=on my forehead. I went and had it checked and it was cancerous. The doctor removed it and sent it to a lab. The results were that even though it was cancerous, the cells were squamous, in other words, not malignant or dangerous. I put myself through a personal hell waiting and that was the hard part. I know it is futile to say dont worry, but do find some comfort in the fact that even all bad news is not that bad. I will be thinking of you

I had the same 19 years ago. My problem was that I was two weeks pregnant so they couldn't do anything at that time. I went 10 months with no treatment at all because of the pregnancy. Six weeks after the baby was born I had a partial hysterectomy. I am still here and healthy as a horse. So even if this tests positive this can be very slow growing. Try not to worry. I will be thinking of you and keeping you in my prayers.
