I was diagnosed a few years ago and started on meds, but the doc told me one could lead to blindness so I'd have to have my eyesight checked every year and the other was making me gain weight (which I definetly don't need!).
So, I took myself off them and manage my pain, most times, with naproxen.

I can't take steroids, and that is the treatment of choice for lupus, so naproxen for me too. I do have to admit, that sometimes I have to "overdose" on it and take three to dull the pain. I worry when I'm having a spell that I will ruin my stomach with the naproxen, but I really have no choice. I try to alternate between that and ibuprofen and tylenol, but the tylenol is no good at all, and the ibuprofen only if I take 800mg.
I'm just thankful that most of the time, I'm o.k. and can manage it. People do not understand when I say I'm tired. To them, tired is not getting a good night's sleep. To me tired is barely being able to walk and talk.
