Default Flu Shots..... Are you getting one?

I usually get one every year now. I started 7 years ago because 8 years ago I had the most God awful flu of my life. I was out of commission for 2 weeks and had a fever of 104 for 3 days...the rest of the time it hovered around 101. I never want to go thru that again.

I can't believe the prices though. They are up to $35 here if I go through the county and I have to make an appt. for the first time. If I go to Walgreens or the local grocery stores you usually wait in line for hours.

I don't get a flu shot, but I make sure my DD gets one every year now because she has asthma.

I always get a flu shot. I'm lucky in that my insurance pays 100% and I can just drop by my doctor's office and get one without waiting longer that five minutes. Before my insurance starting covering flu shots I would get one at our county health department for $10, which is a bargain,

I get one every year-- my employer STRONGLY encourages us to get them (read to mean they require it) They also pay for it. I"m a critical care RN.

The misinformation about the flu shots is incredible.

You cannot get the flu from the shots. . . it's an inactive virus.

The flu shot is to ward against respiratory flu-- not the stomach "flu" that so many complain about.

    Ok-- off my soapbox now.

I work in a nursing home, and get one most years at a very reduced rate-- around $10.

I'm a CNA and we are offered to get the Flu shot every year in my facility for free..the one year I got the Flu shot I became very very ill the next day and was sick for a week... I swore it was from the shot and never got another after that and I have worked at my facility for almost 12 yrs...So being that you are an RN why did I get so sick the very next day?

I usually don't get one as I have never had the flu. Because of my asthma, I do plan on getting one this year.

I've never had one and was always under the assumption it was for like the elderly. lol It was only in recent years that I discovered a whole world of people that get them regularly. I live under a rock. lol

I'd look at the $35 as an investment. If you do get the flu, you'll pay more than that for doc co-pay, medication, etc., not the mention the suffering involved. Oh, and lost wages if that applies.

I think that Gripey and I will both get one this year and I'm gonna push for the pneumonia shot as well.

I had the same thing happen to me. I started getting them after I had a horrible 5 day flu. I got them every year except the past 2 years. They are great at preventing colds too. I rarely get a cold since I get the shots. They are $12 through my county health dept.

My son and I get the shot every year because we both have cronic illnesses and we are considered high risk. Hubby and daughter take the inhaled mist form. I also get the pneumonia shot every 10 years.

I have not gotten one before because you always hear about the shortages, and me being a young, healthy person I didn't want to take it away from someone else. But now my husband has a weakened immune system due to kidney failure so I will probably be getting one.

    I hate shots.
