Anyone else on meds that just wipe you out?
A little background... I've been taking Toprol XL for almost a year now. I started out at 50 mgs and was doing fine on that dose until June when I was having major anxiety which raised my BP, so my Dr doubled my dose to 100 mgs. In June I also started on Zoloft 100 mgs for my anxiety (prescribed by another Dr). Both Drs have been in contact with each other so they know what I'm taking. The problem is.... ever since my dose was upped on the Toprol and I started the Zoloft, I am soooo fatigued all the time. I'm dragging my booty almost everyday. I've read up on the side effects and one of the major ones for both are drowsiness and fatigue.
I know I need to continue taking both. My BP is awesome now...lately I average about 116/70 and my anxiety is almost non-exsistent since starting the Zoloft. I have an appt with one of my Drs next Thursday and I'll talk to him about my symptoms. I'm just hoping something can be done. I hate feeling like this almost everyday

I'm seeing the doctor today because of depression since I started 50 mgs Toprol XL about 2 months ago. I just don't want to do anything but lay in bed. That's bad when you have 3 children under 2! Some of the side effects are: tiredness (10%), dizziness (10%), depression (5%), diarrhea (5%), itching or rash (5%), shortness of breath (3%), and slow heart rate (3%). That's taken from the site: https://www.toprol-xl.com/index.aspx . I totally believe your meds can wipe you out. I'm glad you're talking to your doc about it.

I tried 3 or 4 different meds before I found one I could take...most of them just made me tired. Who needs that? I've been on Wellbutrin XL for about 5 years now and it works great for me. I haven't experienced any negative side effects at all.

Yep-- I take BP meds (two different kinds) chemo, antiemetics, meds for cholesterol, etc. . . .
I toyed around with the timing of the various meds- until I found a way that works. I can't take both BP meds together, or I'm wiped out completely. So I changed the timing on the meds - I take the diuretic one in the morning and the beta blocker at bedtime. I take my chemo drugs at noon and the antiemetic ones at dinner. . . so far it's working well.
Talk to your doctor about changing the times on yours as well, to see if it helps.

I was on Toprol for a while due to irregular heartbeat. I couldn't stand how it made me feel so tired. I was talking to Margery and then to my dr. who gave me the ok to try to regulate my hormones and take epsom salts at bedtime which have pretty much done as well as the Toprol on regulating my heartbeat. Now I don't have to take it.

I agree with sunshine, see if you can take your meds at a different time...I have been on celexa and a low dose of xanax for years now, they don't wipe me out but they do make it hard for me to show emotions

I take Lexapro for anxiety. I take it in the morning. I take Amitriptyline for migraine prevention and I take it before I go to bed. That helps some, but generally, I feel pretty tired most of the time.

Same happened to me. My meds for bp, thyroid and antidepressant wiped me out and all I did was sleep and eat. Then I stopped the antidepressant and couldn't sleep at night anymore and slept all day. I took myself off all the meds and am just starting to feel better. The more meds the doc gave me, the sicker I became. I felt like I may as well be dead and never get out of bed anymore. I am so glad I stopped the meds and finally I am getting up earlier and actually getting things done again. I think it was slowly killing me and I was getting fatter and more and more lethargic. But my blood pressure was excellent and thats all the doc cared about.

I take Toprol XL 100mg and Lexapro 30mg. I'm also allergy, birth control, a medication for Interstitial cystitis. I drag quiet a bit. I am also currently on pain medication because I had major surgery last week. I really hate the side effects I have from it! I'll be glad when I can get off of it. I'm hoping soon to start a weight loss program, and hopefully I can get my BP and heart rate down so I can decrease my Toprol. Good luck with getting some changes made so you won't feel so bad!

I'm hoping my Dr will be able to lower my dose back down to 50 mgs for the Toprol.
Thanks for sharing your stories ladies....I don't feel so alone now
