    Default doctor called today

I had some bloodwork done on Tuesday because I told my doctor that I am exhausted all the time. I told him I knew some of it was to be expected with the baby, but that I can get a full eight hours of sleep and I'm still tired and I just felt that something was wrong. (My doctor is wonderful and never acts like I'm neurotic or anything.)

THey called today with my results, which scared me to death, because who calls on a Saturday? Plus, they said my results wouldn't be in until after Tuesday.

So I called them back and I have thyroid problem. So that's why I'm exhausted and why my hair is falling out more than normal. I have a prescription to pick up.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

I have been taking thyroid medicine for over 5 years and will need to continue to take it the rest of my life because I don't make any on my own.

The medicine really doesn't alter the way you feel (badly that is). You will probably never know you are taking it.

Glad you found out what was going on.

My Dsis was diagnoised with an underactive thyroid after the birth of her second child...the symptoms would all be attributed to just giving birth, but like you she just thought it might be something else...

I am so glad that you were able to find out.

On the other side, my Dmom has an overactive thyroid since the mid 70's, at that time they what she says "killed" her tyroid and she has been on medication for over 30 years...now she is a very active and healthy 73 year old...and proud to say she has good feet, good hair and all her own teeth!! She takes synthroid everyday for the past over 30 years...

I just feel so grateful to have a doctor that listens to me. There have been times when I've taken ds to him and said, "Look, I know he's not acting sick or in pain, but he's just acting off. There;s something wrong." And he never treats me like I'm neurotic or stupid. (turned out ds had ear infection).

I took my first pill to day but I was so happy to be able to look at dh and have an explanation as to why I was never 'in the mood'. Turns out its a libido killer.

    Thanks for your help ladies.

DH has a thyroid problem (I can't remember if its Hypo-Thyroidism or Hyper-Thyroidism) and takes Levoxyl for it. He has for the last 4 years - it runs in his family. Both his mother and grandmother have it.

For the most part, he really just felt tired all the time before he was diagnosed. There's also a weight component to it (the medicine makes it harder to lose weight) that DH reminds me of whenever he starts trying to tackle his excess pounds.

I'm glad to hear that you have a wonderful doctor, and that you were able to get a diagnosis so early!

I sure do know what you are going through. I was diagnosed somewhere around 2 years ago with low thyroid. I was losing hair and I was so tired besides the weight gain. My mind wanted to do things but the body couldn't follow through with it. I have had my medicine upped 2 times since the original dose. Your doctor will keep a close check on you with bloodwork every so often. After you get adjusted to the dosage you need, you will feel like a new woman. Low thyroid has many symptoms so don't think you are crazy. Good luck and just remember there are many of us out there with the same thing.
