Default Has Anyone Had an Interear Infection?

I have one and it's going on two weeks now. I'm still getting dizzy. Does anyone know how long the last? I'm going to call my Dr at the end of the week to see what's up. She gave me some pills and they help somewhat, but they tend to make me sleepy. I'm not getting as much as I like done. Sure hope this passes soon!

Oooh yeah it can last a good, long, miserable while. Do talk to your dr. about it, maybe she can help a bit.

I think you're meaning an inner ear infection. I had an inner and outer ear infection earlier this month. An inner ear infection means that there if fluid around the ear drum, usually because the tube that runs between your ears and your throat is inflamed and the fluid that naturally flows between your ears and throat to flow properly. An outer ear infection means that bacteria was trapped in the outer ear canal from outside of your head to the ear drum, usually caused from water getting into the ear. I was given antibiotics and ear drops and everything is A-OK. Hope everthing goes as well for you.

Inner ear infections can be miserable. The last time I had one it was quite painful. I was given drops and antibiotics. Although I didnt get dizzy, my Dr. said that dizziness can be one of the symptoms. I would call your Dr. if the dizziness persists. Also if after a week on antibiotics your only feeling a little better you may need something stronger.

Thanks everyone. Today seems to be another dizzy day. I'll do what I can. What really stinks is that I can't take care of my grandbabies. Thanks again!

Did you get any antibiotics? If you have an infection of the eardrum (which it sounds like if you are dizzy) then you need antibiotics taken by mouth. Dizziness is a terrible feeling. From the side effect of the medication you described it sounds like you were given Meclizine (aka Antivert) which is to treat dizziness. Hopefully you got some antibiotics to take care of the infection which is causing the dizziness. If you do not have high blood pressure you can take a decongestant (i.e., Sudafed), and that will sometimes help decrease the pressure behind your eardrum. If you're not feeling better I would urge you to go see your healthcare provider. I hate feeling dizzy, but it can also be dangerous. Good luck with it. Take care.

Inner ear infections are miserable. Are you on anitbiotics or is it viral? You need antibiotics to help kill the bacterial infection also taking a decongestant/ antihistamine will help alleviate the dizziness.
The antihistamine/decongestant will help "dry out" the mucous membranes and allow your eustacian tube to exchange air (that little tube that runs between your inner ear and mouth) and allow your ears to equalize.

Some say doing the valsalva maneuver will relieve some of the pressure and dizziness.

    Hope this helps
    It is what it is.
