Gallbladder Surgery on Tuesday
I've been having terrible gallbladder attacks for months and months and now I'm finally being called for surgery! I'm excited but a little nervous too! Any advise would really be appreciated. It will be day surgery they tell me surgery a 1:15 and I should be ready to go home by 5 or 6. My bus driver for the kids said they told her that too and she ended up staying overnight. Can you go back to eating normally right after or does it take some time? I can only eat bread, rice, potatoes......I haven't eaten meat in a year, it seemed to trigger really bad attacks. I haven't eaten cucumbers, tomatoes, cauliflower, salad dressing, meat, spices, basically anything good. I'm excited about the surgery but a little worried when I hear some people say they still can't eat properly. Any advice out there?

Just had mine out on Oct. 11th. Day surgery in at 7am out 11 am. Went home and slept the rest of the day away. Next day had an upset stomach most of the day but held down some tapioca pudding and jello I had made up the day before. Ended up being my best move. The day before I went in I made up a big batch of tapioca, 2 different boxes of jello and a batch of bananas. I ate them for the next 2/3 days. Also had toast and sprite. Now am eating regular. The only thing I have really noticed is I don't eat quite as much as I used to I get full faster. Also I was told to get some stool softeners before hand because the pain pills might block me up. I did end up taking them. Also you'll find that the hardest thing for you to do is get up and down out of bed. I used a pillow against my belly to help hold things in. I was glued together not stapled or stiched. Took 3 weeks for glue to finally come all off. They went in throught my belly buttin and put in 4 other slots. I tease that I now have vending machine slots. Just put in a coin. hahaha Take it easy and it'll all be over soon. I was afraid but am so glad I had it done. The attacks were terrible and the fear of the next attack was almost as bad as one. I felt like a ticking time bomb never knowing when I'd have the next attack. Now no worries. Am up and moving around well.

I had this surgery ten years ago. It was easy. I was almost there overnight, went in at 7am or so, and went home about 9pm. They said I could stay overnight, but I had a newborn at home, so I did not want to stay. Recovery was not hard at all.

I had mine out about 2 years ago by laproscopy. No problems at all and I eat everything. I had to stay overnight but that was because I had an allergic reaction to the morphine. No pain meds after that at all.

I never had any attacks prior to having mine out. My surgery was a breeze. The worste part was getting the IV. I had mine done on a Friday around 9am. I was home by 5. The next afternoon I was at my son's football game -that was an hour drive to get to and about a block and a half walk from the car to the stadium stands. I have three tiny little scars on my belly/rib area, but since I am not getting in a bikini anytime soon, I don't care.
The only problem I did have was some stomach discomfort after I ate for about three months. Just not able to keep much on my tummy for a while. Doc said it was nothing unusual though.
Hope it all goes smoothly for you.DD (19)

My fiance had his out in the morning and about an hour after he was out of surgery they brought him food. An hour later we came home.
Took it out through his bellybutton. 3 tiny scars...

I had mine out about 22 years ago, the old fashioned way
Not much fun then. Now though it seems to be a breeze comparatively speaking. I think you'll be feeling much better, more quickly than you imagine.

I had mine removed in 2000. It was laprascopsy, so no big scars or anything. I developed a fever post-op so had to stay in the hospital three days. I did a lot of throwing up the first day or two. They told me that was normal. Within a couple weeks though I was eating normally.
Good luck and please keep us posted!

Ashleigh had hers out this past summer. She gets tummyaches after too much fat (french fries, cheese, etc) but for the most part she's fine.
My mom had her's out this summer, too & I think she's lost at least 50 lbs.....she still has food issues & can't eat much.....but she's losing lots of weight & looks great.
