    Default Self Insuring

Going through a divorce, I will lose coverage under the ex when it is final. I work for a small company and the premiums to cover me and the kids will basically be one whole paycheck a month. There is just no way to swing that so I have been looking at self insuring plans on line. I read the thread on Keiser and was wondering if anyone else self-insures and who you would recommend (or who I should avoid).

Is there anyway you could apply for medical benefits through you local county assistance office? I get health insurance for the kids through them but nothing else but for you it might be worth looking into. I got a letter the other day about me being approved for medical insurance but because of state funding being low I was put on a waiting list.

If you can get medical benefits thru your state that would be the way to go until you get on your feet. Will your ex not be responsible for any health insurance on the kids? I have some friends that self insure thru blue cross blue sheild. Also before I got the job I have we had insurance on my hubby thru Golden Rule. It was resonable and good coverage. I know have a job where my health insurance is paid and I only have to pay for his insurance which is about 400 a month. It sounds like alot, but it is about 250 cheaper than his old insurance. Your premium will depend on your ages and any health problems you may have, but something to remember in getting insurance is, if you have had continuing coverage for 18 months usually you will not be penalized for pre existing conditions..hope this helps....oh..you might check out United Healthcare online. They have excellent insurance but not sure of the price....Kathy
