    Unhappy Help--sore throat

Other than gargling salt water (yuck--but I am doing it) and drinking lots of water in general, what can I do for a sore throat? I feel yucky. I hope I won't have this tomorrow. Sometimes I feel awful for a day, but then it passes.

    Anyway please .

    OJ always helps me.

    Soup, tea...

decongestants might help with post nasal dripif that might be what you think is irritating your throat...or maybe halls or vicks losenges? how about tylenol?

OJ? Really? The thought of that on my throat right now...shudder! I can't drink it anyway due to my ulcer and the acid.

I think I will make some soup...maybe some tea w/honey (though I might be out of honey) and take some Tylenol.

I have Chloraseptic lozenges, but they taste like band-aids to me. No, I've never actually eaten a band-aid , but that's what I imagine them to taste like.

*eta: oops...I must be thinking of a different lozenge...these just taste like cough drops. Can't wait to go to bed tonight.

Yeah, I second the vote for ice cream.

Hot tea with honey is always my first choice. I keep "Throat Coat" tea on hand and have it with honey whenever my throat is sore or just scratchy feeling. I realize that doesn't help you right now, sorry... just something for future reference.

I've also tried plain hard candy if I didn't have any cough drops, and that helps a little.

Unfortunately I am lactose intolerant, so that won't work for me.

I made some chicken broth and am waiting for Dave to come home with honey and lemon juice.

lemon juice (even from frozen concentrate), honey and slippery elm come to mind. if the sore throat is caused by something other than nasal drip..perhaps by a bacteria, we have always used tea tree oil to swab the back of the throat & tonsil area. It burns like crazy, but it has saved us many a trip to the dr.'s office( you need to spit out the excess tea tree oil b/c you're not suppose to drink it). you can find a bottle of this oil at walmart for less than $5 & it is good for alot of things....toothache(rub on the gums), skin problems, bug bites, cold sores.

I think you've gotten a lot of good ideas Michelle. The only other thing that I would suggest is warm tea or warm hot chocolate. That always soothes my throat. I hope you don't have strep. Take it easy and feel better soon

michelle- do you have a head ache, fever or stomach ache with your sore throat? if so, those are symptoms & signs of strep throat (not always, but at least one of these symptoms). keep us posted.

Aw Chelle, I'm sorry to hear you aren't feeling up to par.

You know I was sick as a dog at your house and it was black tea with honey for me. Really does work. Hope you feel better soon.

    Thanks everyone

The honey in the tea really helped. My throat is a bit better today, and I'm still doing most of the suggested remedies. My head hurts, and my body is a bit achey, but other than that I'm fine.

Lauren is home sick today too
