burn calories by drinking water
i was reading that you can burn calories by drinking ice cold water. it said that if you drink ice cold water it takes more energy for your body to warm it up to bring it to the correct temperature so that the body can properly process it.
i was unaware that i was already doing this but thought it would be some neat information to share.
i do have a quick question i have been trying to get my husband and kids to drink more water and i am have not such good luck. they say because of no flavor. does anyone have any ideas how i could get them to drink more water without all the sugar and all the other junk that soda and juices have in it. thanks

How about putting sliced lemon in it? Or lime or orange.

I get bored with regular water too. I've been using True Lemon & True Lime packets. I got a bunch of free samples awhile ago.

Drinking water is great and you should do a lot of it. But cold water isn't going to melt away pounds. The calorie difference is going to be insignificant. Only exercise is going to burn away any real weight.
As for getting in the habit of drinking it, I think you just have to do it and there's no real way to get to loving it. Maybe you could start out drinking water with something mixed in (Crystal Light or Kool Aid or whatever is liked in the house) and gradually put less and less of the mix in. This is how people switch from whole to skim milk, by gradually thinning down.

I drink a lot of water, and when I get bored with it, I add frozen fruit. I usually just add a couple of strawberries, but I also like to add frozen lemon or orange wedges.
Maybe you could start them off with flavored seltzer water?

I have a friend who adds a marishino cherry in her water. I have not tried it but she really likes it.

I don't care if I only burn half a calorie--I'll take it lol! Actually, I can only drink water if it's ice cold. And I may not be losing any weight just from drinking water, but I don't bloat as much and that's worth the price of admission right there!!
When I switched to more water(and it's still a work in progress) I had to add flavor. Citrus is good. I drink a lot of crystal light, too. And plain old iced tea. The cool part is, once they start drinking more water, the flavored stuff gets to be too strong and they won't want so much of it. I still have to water the juice down 50/50 for my 2 kids--they can't drink it full strength!

I will occassionally add plain lemon juice to my water just for a little something different.

Have my lemon wedges cut and in the fridge along with a pitcher of filtered water. So refreshing!
I think getting out of my chair, walking to the kitchen, reaching to get glass from cupboard, opening fridge, lifting pitcher, pouring the water & drinking it also helps with the calorie count.

We have a water spout on our kitchen sink that is filtered water. It is delicious water so I have no excuse not to drink it with ice cubes. I was just thinking last night that I should drink more, water that is.
Today my challenge to myself is to drink 3 glasses of water. I will increase with time.
