Hair removal
What does everyone use? Does anyone have a product that they swear by? Has anyone tried laser hair removal?
I'm a combination shaving, waxing, depiliatory cream type of woman. Name a hair removal product and I've probably used it before.

Being part Italian, I've probably tried everything as well.
I have an old Epilady (about 20 years old). I just started using it about a year ago.... I have no hair left on my legs! No need to shave anymore, and my legs are smooth, my skin is no longer dry all the time.
The first couple of times was a bit painful... easily solved with a nice big glass of wine first
At this point it doesn't hurt a bit, just takes a few minutes maybe once a week. I've heard the newer EpiLady is gentler, but I can't imagine how any hair removal process that requires ripping hair out by the roots could ever be gentle
!!!
But the process is (almost) permanent, and saves big $$ on razors...
Is that ~too much information~ for a Sunday morning?
I'm still looking for the perfect solution for the little hairs on my chin. Right now I tweeze them. Has anyone tried laser removal? Is it worth the money? How about hair removal solutions for underarms and bikini line? Does anyone wax those areas that could recommend a good product?

I'm still figuring it out. I shave my legs, no big deal. It's my armpits that need help! They get so itchy with shaving. I tried waxing them the other day, but the wax I used pulled off not one hair! So I shaved again. And itched.

I checked into laser hair removal a while back. The plastic surgeon that does it in our area charges around $500 for underarms. Definitely not frugal, but considering that I'd never have to shave my armpits again, I don't think it's any outrageous amount. I'm seriously considering doing it after I get our CC paid up and a decent-sized EF.

I heard you have to be careful with laser hair removal. For example, my SIL can't have it done on her tattoo, because the laser will cause second or third dregree burns due to the ink. I desperately want to get it done...just imagine, no more shaving EVER!

Nair. I can't see well enough without my glasses on to shave in the shower, and just started using Nair one time when it was on sale. Don't leave it on your armpits too long or you'll feel like you sunburned them. About 3 minutes works for me. I usually put it one, then mess with my face cleaner, then climb in the shower and rub my legs with a wash cloth while the shower runs over me, and I'm done, and not wounded ;-)

Not one single one of these works well for me.....I shave out of sheer neccessity. The hair on my legs, and armits, and ehmmm, bikini area....is hard and course and super SUPER thick! I shave two times a day in the summer. When my leg hair grows in (daily).......it is sore corse and rough that it hurts! (is that TMI?)
Any suggestions?

I have been having electrolysis done on my upper lip for the past year. It hurts like hell and, overall, it has cost a lot. I can't believe that it has taken this long and I just keep going because I want all of the hair gone forever--and I feel like if I stop now and still have some hair on my upper lip, all that money was wasted.

Really? Nair has never worked for my armpits. Strangely, that kind of stuff works for my bikini line, but when I try it on the underarms, half of the hair sort of disintegrates, and the rest sort of curls up and dies, but stays in my skin. The hair that's left is so strangely messed up that I can't even shave it. And then my armpits hurt all day.

I shave my legs, armpits and bikini line. I pluck the occasional stray chin hairs and I go in and get my eyebrows waxed, I don't trust myself with tweezers up there....so afraid I will make the eyebrows look stupid.
As for the itching in the armpit area after shaving, I have that issue if I put deodorant within 1/2 hour of shaving.Challenges

The only good thing about having a thyroid problem is that I don't have to shave anymore. But one of the bad things is that the hair on my head also comes out.
When I wa a teenager I did use Nair. Worked pretty good once you got past the chemical smell.

I don't want to be discouraging, but I had electrolysis done on my upper lip for almost two years and I still have to wax. You're right though...it REALLY hurts!
Traci, have you tried the laser hair removal? It's supposed to be permanent no matter the hair texture. Also, my SIL swears by waxing....she says if you use it diligently for six months, you'll notice a great difference in the amount and coarseness of the hair. She stopped waxing her legs when she got pregnant and she says she has to start all over again because the hair came back once she started shaving again.
One question: how does the Epilady work? I looked at it online, but I can't tell if it pulls the hair out or shaves it or if there's electricity involved somehow. It's supposed to be permanent, though, so I find it extremely tempting. Anyone know about this?

Hmm, I have a thyroid problem too - maybe there is some sort of connection with the Nair working well. I've only had it leave curled up hair when I tried to rinse it off way too soon.

I use Sally Henson's Facial Hair Remover on my face. It takes about 5 minutes, once every other month and my face is a smooth as a baby's behind. My face will sting a bit for the first couple of days when I wash it but otherwise no other problems. Oh, and mom always told me NOT to tweeze the whiskers you get on your chin. She said it makes them come back bigger and thicker and darker. Just use scissors and carefully clip them. Works for me, mine are still blonde.

I used the Epilady years ago when they first came out (probably 20 years ago). I have to say it hurt like crazy b/c it pulls the hairs from the roots. You have to let the hair grow out a little so it has some hair to grab. I couldn't stick with it b/c it was painful. However, my mom used it for years and loved it. The hair does grow back, but not as fast and a lot softer and thinner. By the way it is electric. Of course, I was a teenager when I used it. Today I could have the glass of wine like Mikandmari suggested to dull the pain.lol
