I'm stressing big time! (long...sorry)
Those of you from Florida, and maybe some of you elsewhere, know about the insurance crisis in Florida. It's been on the national news. People who have been here forever are having to sell their homes and move because of it.
Anyway, my insurance company has gone into receivership (bankruptcy for insurance companies. The state takes them over), and I have to find a new policy. They have a company all set up to take us over, but God only knows how high the premiums will be. I can barely afford what I have now!
On top of that, I was injured at work, and missed some time (no pay). I will have to take physical therapy, so more time out. Then on top of that, season is over, so our hours are being cut. This is the ONLY location in my district I know that cuts full time hours! Most stores give the full-timers their hours and cut part timers. It's making me crazy! So far it's only 2 hours a week, but I know it will get to be more than that, although they can't give me less than 36. I don't make but 9.50 an hour now, so it's really eating into my budget.
I'm going to have to start selling stuff to survive this initial period, and in the meantime, I'm going to try to get this house on the market and get the hell out of Florida. I hate to leave, but I can't stand this having to work two jobs just to survive, and basically having no life.
I worry every day that the car will break down or something else will happen, and I won't be able to pay for it.
If I sell the house, I'll be able to go to S. Georgia and buy a mobile home and land outright, and the insurance and taxes are less there too. Of course, they have state income tax and personal property tax on your car, but without a house payment, that won't be too big a burden. I'll actually be able to ENJOY life for a change!
It will take me at least a couple of months of working my tail off to actually be able to sell and move, and the market value is going down every day, but I have to get out of here. The stress is eating me alive!
Thanks for listening.

Hope your home sells quick and that you find exactly what you want in Georgia, especially a less stressful life style. Good luck!

I hope your home sells quickly, that would take alot of stress off of you. When I get stressed I forget to takecare of myself. I think ohhhhh I don't have time for that long hot bubble bath or to get my haircut or to play with the dogs in the yard. That is the very thing I should be doing. I know when I do, I think and feel much healthier.
Please take care of yourself. Be kind to yourself, even if it is a silly indulgence that only you would understand, sometimes that is what gets us through.

I live in florida and know just what you are talking about. We are in big trouble too and there is absolutly nothing we can do. In my area the houses just arent selling at all. I drive buy several of them that look like decent homes but have been for sale for almost two yrs. We are lucky that we still have insurance but I pray they dont raise it anymore. As it is our housepayment went up almost 400 because of property taxes and insurance. We can only afford one car and thats paid for! My dh works his butt off to make some extra cash just so we can have a little money. I have slashed my budget to the bones and I cant even buy new shoes for myself this summer. But If we lived in another state my Dh's pay would be plenty. The only thing I can say to you is that you are not alone and millions of others that live in florida are in the same spot you are in. Hand in their something has to change soon or everyone will end up homeless. I will send you good vibes and hope that your house selling fast.

I really feel for those of you in Florida that are having a rough time, we left there last June.... I am glad that we got out when we did. Though my dh was offered a job down there today that is tempting because of the potential income.....right now we aren't interested in potential income.

Thanks, everyone. Actually, I had someone interested in my house not too long ago, and I called her tonight. She's going out of town, but is going to call me when she gets back. My house needs lots of work, but I have most of the materials in the garage, just can't afford to get anyone to do it!
So cross your fingers that she and her husband will like it, and decide to take it. I'm praying hard.
I have ten days to get this place spotless! LOL TALL ORDER!!!

Good Luck on selling!!!!
On a side note both of my brothers have lived in Warner Robbins Georgia and loved it. (One still does) They were both stationed there with the Air Force. It's just south of Macon (about 20 miles) and seems to have built up due to the base. Cost of living is much cheaper than Florida. My brother bought his house new just a few years back for 50 something thousand. It's a 3 bedroom with a huge yard and attached garage. I'm not sure how much real estate has jumped there but I know there are lots of new developments going up and with it being a town with a military base there's house turn over from that as well....so there's always lots of houses on the market. I would think with the supply being so abundant the prices may not have gone up like they have other places. (I know you said trailer and land but figured I'd pass on a little info) If I liked the heat (YUCKO) I'd have considered it myself after my first trip to visit.

The same exact thing is happening in Hawaii. It's why my parents never bought a house. I need the security of owning my own home so I have to look out for where I want to do that. Thanks for the heads up on Florida... I didn't know about it and my husband wants to move there. Now I have something to argue with.

Good luck. It seems like you have a fallback plan and you know exactly what you want.
