buying omega 3, 6, and 9
again to start for 14 yr old son. he's doing poorly in school and he cant seem to grasp and keep info there after studying. I made sure his meals were well planned and have whats he needs. No lack of appatite. lol
He has ADHD . He was diagnosed at the end of grade 2 , put on meds till the end of grade 5 then taken off for good. I tried 3 times all these years for months at a time, and it only made him hyper, that was years ago. But now since theres no hyperrism in him left. Im willing to try the omegas again , there suppose to be good for memory.

I buy the childrens kind that they can chew up. I get them through Amazon.com. I find that they make my son start to focus a little better. I also find that if I watch his diet, he does better also. I used to assume that because he ate at school that they gave him a good balance diet. But I was wrong. For breakfast, they can choose from a sugary cereal, and then what a biscuit one day, a choc donut another, choc chip pancakes. I don't know about you, but if you sugar everyone up, they either stay up, or the crash a while later. Then you want to know why they don't concentrate...DUH!! I am just about fed up with the school here in our area. They seem to pass over the important things, or make things worse than what they are. Then the next week they act like it didn't matter...ooppps sorry I am ranting now...
sorry

Hi,
I know a few of herbs that traditionally have worked well for memory that you may wish to try.
I understand Ginko is given to help combat memory problems in older people and it may work for your son. Ginko helps circulation which causes increased blood flow to the brain and which can sometimes ease memory problems.
Another herb I'm thinking of right now is Iboga. The root had traditionally been used for ceremonies in western Africa. Unfortunately it is quite hard to get in the US because in massive doses it acts as an hallucinogen; In smaller doses however, it works quite well for concentration and memory. You may be able to find it online or, better yet, a local herbalist.
The other one would be Lesser Periwinkle. European herbalists have used periwinkle for headaches, vertigo, and poor memory since medieval times. It is still believed to increase the blood flow to the brain and the absorption of glucose.
Good luck
Aaron

Ms Louise,
Oh i know about the schools bad foods. they have both healthy and junk food there too, lots of fried garbage. Theyt raised the junk food types up thinking that would hlep get the kids to eat better, yeah right lol.
They decided to raise the good salads and even cold plates up!!!! What are they thinking? My son told the principal himself after the prices went up, that its just as exspensive to eat here as go up town to Wendys!!!
As far as the focusing, im waiting for the teachers to let me know in the next week how he's doing in class and if his concentration in th classroom itself is any better. he likes the class to be more quieter or my son asks the teacher if he can do the tests in the core door. To much distraction he finds.
Aaron, I heard that ginko does help. I know that the UDo's of oil worked well but is more exspensive then the omegas. Ill let u know if i get any feed back in the next week hows he's doing with the omegas.

Miss Thrify, I wish you the best of luck, I go round and round with my sons school. Every other week it is always something different. My son, says all the teachers do is yell, and are always missing in action. I do realize as they get older that they need to be responsible. But for the last 4 years they let these kids fly by themselves to much. You got to structure first before you put their wings on. I am really seriously considering homeschool. I just don't know if he will cooperate with me. You know the mom thing..hahah
Well again I wish you the best of luck. If you find anything real good let me know. Thanks..

Ms Louise, I hear ya on the structure thing. When he was smaller during elementary, he would try to walk all over me and the teachers. certain teachers worked well with us as agroup working together to meet the smae common goals, others, their way, and they'd say "he'll just have to settle down, I cant do anything else with him"
The key is them working with us as parents, weekly info going back and forth whether by notes or daily at first to tell how he's doing and incentives for the kid when he does well. We all know that each day is differnt' lol
Some days are so great and others suck the life out of me. lol
I know that when their younger they cant help themselves, and their little bodies are going in every direction and their mind is else wheres.
I know mine does better one on one, and as he got older it got better , less hyper activity. But still he gets frustrated like any other ADD kid. If he get the subject or dont like the teacher, watch out, its not his fault at all, and only his side lol

Hi Miss_thrifty,
I dont actually know all that much about omegas for as much as i hear about them; please let us know the results.
I worry about my eldest son having attention issues. He is almost 4 and will (thankfully) be starting in school this fall. I worry he may have a hard time relaxing and paying attention. I wonder if it is only because i don't pose an stimulating enough environment for him. I guess we will see in September!

Good for you...! The Omegas are so beneficial for overall health...
ADD/ADHD seems to run in our family. I've been battling severe Chronic Fatigue my whole life & getting out of the depression/brain fog/ADD/anxiety has been a 4 year journey for me. The side affects of meds were pretty bad for me. I have to tweak my routine every few months.
My teen son is taking a protein supplement (for muscles!) but the side affect is that all those amino acids are helping his memory.
BTW: I combined SAMe & Gaba & my memory improved & it took away generalized anxiety. I figure it will save me $ in the long run. I use Nature's made coupons & that really helps. The only symptom I am still working on is being sleepy alot.
Don't ever give up!

While my teen son is ADD like me; my preteen is the more Hyper type!
Few teachers have been understanding about his need to multi-task. Elementary school is really made for quiet, reserved kids. Not excited, questioning and physical kids. It must be torturous for them.
On the flip side, hyper boys make an excellent athletes. I do believe the discipline of year-round sports really balances my boys out. It keeps them busy, out of trouble & gives them focus. It is a place boys can get praise for being energetic! That's good for their self esteem.
