Default Ok, not at all frugal but glad I did it....

I've been using the same hairdresser for about 20 something years. She's a girl I went to school with and I like her a lot. But sometimes she doesn't do what I want her to, to my hair. She gets a little carried away talking sometimes and will just go wild like Edward Scissorhands.... Anyway I've been contemplating having someone else cut it but since I live in this small town with her there's no avoiding the fact that she'll know for sure I have. Well, Gripey and I were in the mall the other day waiting to have the tires rotated on his truck and we walked by a trendy hair salon. I said, I wanna get my haircut. He said go for it. So I did. Now I've been paying about $17 for the cut and tip....although I'm never completely 'satisfied' when I leave anymore. (sounds like I'm talking about something more than a haircut ) The new 'do' cost me $54 but it's a great cut, I'm thrilled with it! I nearly fell over about the price, don't know if I can stand to pay that everytime.....gulp but I do love my haircut. Now, how do I not act 'sheepish' when I see my 'hairdresser'?

~48 yr. old sahw, livin' it up in our empty nest, smack dab in the middle of everywhere.~

Nope...don't avoid her. Tell her like it is. Tell her you and hubby were in the mall, you walked by the salon and on a whim you got your hair cut. Then you go on to tell her you really like what the new stylist did to your hair...the new cut and how for someone that didn't even know you she did such a nice job matching you with a new do. Then for your next cut/style, go back to your old stylist/friend. If she doesn't cut your hair in that style, she either doesn't know what she's doing (not up to date), she doesn't care how your hair looks or doesn't want your business. Then you move on and either go back to new stylist or find a new one that's not so expensive. At least this way you've given your old stylist a chance to right more than one wrong haircut. I would take a pic of your new style so that you can show stylist will have a reference for future cuts.

I agree with foxxiroxie give her a chance to do what you want or change to someone that will.

Great way of handling it and making sure you get what YOU want.

I agree with taking pictures of your new style for your old stylist. I would take them from all angles with your hair styled if it is a style that you "fix" after blowdrying and with it just blowdried. That way she can see how the layers are cut and exactly what to do and she will have no excuses about not cutting it in the style that you are wearing now. If she can't duplicate the style after that then you have no reason to feel guilty about finding another stylist .
