psoriasis
I have psoriasis and have since I was 16, creams can help but it generally gets better in the summer. It has never bothered me before I would always say yes it is psoriasis thanks. I always went swimming etc. But this year it is real bad most of my upper arms are covered, lover arms are becoming covered, hands, and feet and it is working its way down my back. My legs are not that bad but I am getting large spots. I have it on my breasts (sorry if that is tmi) as well as other places. My scalp is bad I brush my hair and spend an hour trying to figure out how to get the flakes out. My face which I can't hide is getting pretty covered. For the first time since I was 16 I am embaressed by how I look. I try to cover up when I go out and try and get sun because that has helped. Nothing I am doing is making it any better it is getting worse, to the point that I do get stares a lot. Everybody I know is trying to be helpful but yes I have tried that. Or no my Dr. does not think I should try it because I burn to easy. I have never been a vain person or into how I looked per say. I rarely wore make up and feel best in jeans or bell bottoms and a t-shirt. But I am itchy, sore and emaressed about how I look. My DH tells me I look hot which is nice. But it is getting to the point that I don't want to go where lots of other people are. I have to take DD to playgroup today and it is worse then last time. I go and see the Dr. on Thursday but here is the other issue DH and I are trying to have a baby. And the creams thin your skin which my first dr did not tell me and I used them all the time. So I don't know what else to try any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi is there anything you can do to change your diet? More whole foods, lots of veges? Cut out dairy. We are using collodial silver on our skin problems -excema and psoriasis. It is helping a little. Have you tried aromatherapy, homeopathics or a naturopathic doctor? We were just told to use olive oil on psoriasis , we have yet to try it. Hubby has that problem and is slow to try something new. He also tried peroxide and that helped his scalp for awhile. Good luck, skin difficulties are slow to change.

I have psoriasis too. I have had it since I was 17 years old. It started out as a small patch on the top of my chest the year my mother passed away. For many years it would go in cycles. I would have it real bad and then not so much. When I was pregnant with dd1 it got bad after giving birth and stayed that way. Then 9 months later I got pregnant with dd2 and was told I had a 50/50 chance of it going away or having it bad. Well guess what? I was covered all over my body. I went to the dr.'s and they gave me ointments and yes they only work for so long then your body gets used to it.
I just pretty much gave up. I wouldn't go places and I was too embarrassed.
I know that mine was caused by amounts of stress.
I had to change my soaps & laundry detergent. Have you tried that? I use free & clear everything. I only use dial soap and that seems to work for me.
About a year ago I took a step back from my life and let go of alot of the streeses and my skin started clearing up. Also not letting myself worry about what other people think. Some still stare but I am glad that the ones that asked seem to be very interested in what I tell them.
I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone in this struggle. Have they offered light therapy? or even the last resort is taking a pill but where you said that you wanted to have another baby it might not be the best thing.
I wish you luck.Sue

there is a cream that is made form marigolds that works pretty well. I worked with a woman who used it and more than half of hers cleared up. I will try and find the name of it for you if you haven't already tried it.

My mom has had it for years and within the past year or so has started taking injections that have helped considerably. I think she does the injection twice a month. I don't know if that is possible since you are TTC, but you might ask your Dr. Are you seeing a family Dr. or a dermatologist?

Thank you for the replys. I go and see my dr today, the city only has one dermatologist so it takes for every to see her, I saw her years ago. So I am intrested in what the dr. is going to tell me. I am going to ask about light therapy when I am there. I am also switching laundry soap to an all natural so I hope that helps.
I have not tried the cream, but would love to if you can get the name that would be great. Thank you.there is a cream that is made form marigolds that works pretty well. I just wanted to say that I feel for you. I, too, have suffered over the years. It tends to come and go, mostly with stress and illness. I'll say a prayer for you.

My son only has mild form of it and the sun makes it worse. I took him to dermatolgist 4 years ago and he said if it got worse let him know. I make sure he has sun screen on it and his arms and legs are covered. He gets it on his elbows, knees and sometimes a little on his face. I put aloe vera on him, it helps. So far so good but they told me it could flare up as he gets older. Hes 11 yrs old.

Have you tried Arbonne? It's a Swiss company that you can order products from via consultants. They have a product--I'm not sure which one, that does amazing things to people with psoriasis. Also there aren't many chemicals in the product at all.

You aren't alone, hon. We have it here at my house too. Not so much my ds, but me and dd have it on our scalps, and I have patches throughout my body. When I was a teenager, my mom thought it was ringworm, and started making me put antifungal cream on it. Now that I know what it is, I'm not as embarrassed. I would be very interested in any solutions this board comes up with!

Sorry you're going through such a tough time.

The June 19, 2007 issue of Woman's Day has an article and some treatment suggestions. The lady that wrote the article has it and she said that sometimes something works for awhile and then stops and you have to try something else. I believe she said light therapy was the best for her. You might try to pick up a copy of that mag.

This will sound weird to some of you - take a probiotic or eat a good yoghurt. You can even put yogurt on your psoriasis patches - it will help. In the latest research, psoriasis contains both Candida (yeast) and Strep (bacteria). Natural yeast remedies will work (garlic (do not use if on a blood thinner), grapefruit seed extract (do NOT use if on any other medication!!!!!!), etc. Your diet should be low in sugar and refined carbs and high in veggies and you may have to eliminate dairy, egg, or wheat.
