Birth Control Question (Warning - Could be TMI)
Hi all...
Quick question...
I started Loestrin24 Fe birth control pills on Monday of this week. Does anyone know how long it takes for them to become effective?
(Also, please no one lecture me on birth control or tell me horror stories about their particular experience with this brand of pills...I just want to know how long I would need to use back-up protection.)
Thanks!My Blog: http://amysreallife.wordpress.com

Sheesh -- didn't your gyne give you any instructions when they gave you the prescription?

Here's what I found:
• You may need to use a backup birth control method, such as condoms or a spermicide, during the first week when you start a new pack of Loestrin 24 Fe. You may also need to avoid getting pregnant during the first few months after you stop using Loestrin 24 Fe. Follow your doctor's instructions.

Generally, my gynecologists have always told me to allow one month for pills to be effective.

I worked for a family practice doc for 4 years, she always told patients that they weren't full protected until after they completed their first pack of birth control pills.

Thank you ladies!
Denise, she said approximately 2-3 weeks, but that approximately threw me off. So, I thought I'd check in with the ladies that know it all!
