Fix Toenail Fungus and Enjoy Swimming without Embarrassment
By: Abigail Franks
The desire to research and find a home nail fungus treatment is usually brought about due to the dissatisfaction of having unsightly toenails. The dissatisfaction you may feel is based on an inability to fully understand the nature of the condition and how to successfully fight the infection. All most of us want however is to be able to wear sandals without the embarrassment of ugly toenails.
The difficulty in dealing with toe nail fungus or onychomycosis, it's scientific name, is that it is considered a chronic condition. Chronic simply means that it's difficult to completely cure and get rid of. This, along with the fact that many therapies for a wide variety of human ailments simply do not work 100% of the time for everyone. This can make us research and look for a home nail fungus treatment on our own.
It may be possible that we, the patients, may be causing a re-infection by not taking adequate care to protect our healthy toenail growth. We know it's contagious and can continue to grow anywhere it's relatively damp and dark like your shoes for instance. It just makes good sense to eliminate as many potential places where the infection can hide and re-infect us and our family.
Trying to keep toe nail fungus under control in your home does take some effort but may help limit re-infection. Use a low strength solution of regular laundry chlorine bleach and disinfect the bathtub on a regular basis. Simply pour a cup or so in enough hot water to cover the bottom of the tub by an inch or so. Let set 30 minutes or more and rinse with clean water. You may also want to throw in any shower mats to clean them as well.
Watch Out for Things that Don't Work
When searching the Web, be aware that many of the toe nail fungus alternatives are little more than folklore or one persons opinion. Consider the Yellow Cornmeal cure.
This is NOT a popular home nail fungus treatment but is offered to help you understand that almost any idea has been tried and there is no doubt some who claim it works.
But There May be Solutions for Ugly Nails That May Work
Alkalize - Alkalize
Eating foods that are high in alkalinity is claimed by some to be an effective home nail fungus treatment. The idea is to alter the living environment for the fungus making it more difficult for it to live and thrive. Not extremely effective but may help with very mild cases of toe fungus. Still it has some basis in truth as this is the way many of the powerful prescription drugs available from your doctor work on the infection. These anti-fungal drugs work to change the body to make it less friendly to fungus growth. Also note that the most popular homeopathic methods to treat this condition use vinegar, a natural alkaline product.
There are some home remedies that offer a measure of hope and actually have attained some success. That is, if you believe the number of testimonials for some of these "cures." Home treatment remedies like odorless iodine, vinegar and tea tree oil have a much larger following. These products are claimed by many to have helped with their nail infection than the rest of the treatment solutions offered.
Products like FUNG-B-GONE are all natural and help clear toenail fungus with regular use. It's a great home nail fungus treatment solution to a difficult to cure problem.
Only you can decide what therapies from the homeopathic or home remedy world you want to try. Remember however that re-infection is a concern.
