    Default Lyme Disease

I found out last week that my dad (77yrs old) has Lyme disease. I called him early in the week just to say hello and my stepmom said that he hadn't been doing well for days...fever, fatigue, etc.. and that they were waiting for the Dr to return their call. The next day my stepmom called and said the Dr saw him and he has Lyme disease. They found a tick bite on his shin. I guess I need to add that they live in rural WI on a lake (prime tick country). Anyway...as of yesterday his fever is down and he's feeling somewhat better. The Dr thinks that they caught it early enough and he's now on two strong antibiotics (I didn't ask what they were).

For anyone who has had or knows anyone who has had Lyme disease.....Just wondering how soon he will recover and will he have any ill effects? I've heard alot of nasty things about Lyme disease and I'm really worried about my dad due to his advanced age.

I don't know anything about Lyme disease, but I am glad that they caught it early!! I will keep him in my prayers.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but my husband's grandfather has Lyme Disease and it's a recurring disease that doesn't actually go away, just goes into remission. He'll have flair ups with achy, fever and chills that will put him down for a couple of days. Unfortunately, they stated that he would have this the rest of his life and he's been battling it for almost 10 years now. Hopefully, the antibiotics will help him thru this.

Push push push for an infectuous disease specialist. The family dr gave me the regular antibiotics course last summer but when I went back complaining 2 weeks after getting off meds blew me off saying it couldn't be lymes still. I went another month getting worse and worse. I ended up falling alot, constantly dizzy, couldn't see straight and eventually slurring speech. Dh took me to er and and they thought I'd had a stroke. DH is yelling I had started all this all after lymes treatment so they figured it out pronto and got me going on mega antibiotics for 28 more days after a bag of IV antibiotics. I was told by the infectuous disease specialist that if I had any symptoms after that treatment to come back imediately. I ended up with IV treatments also. Lymes is dangerous! It damaged my pancrease quite badly and I keep needing my heart tested. It was the infectous disease drs opinion that if the 1st dr had treated it properly I wouldn't have ended up with permanent damage. I don't want to frighten you but proper treatment is so necessary. Alot of drs are not real informed on it.
I hope your dad recovers quickly.

i want to reiterate what mick said, your dad needs to see a specailist. lyme is not an illness to fool around with. it can be very painful when it flares up. the earlier it is properly treated, the better off the paitent is. he may endup on antibiotics for a while to try to get it in remission, but they can help a lot.
