Alli
Has anyone here tried the new medicine out called Alli (for weight loss)? Has it worked? Have you had the "side effects"?
I am thinking of taking it and just wanted to get as many opinions as I can.Robbin

I wouldn't try it.If I felt I needed a pill for weight loss(Which I would only consider if I was obese -it would still be an act of desperation to me and foolish)I would see a doctor. If your health is in danger because of your weight-high blood pressure, joint problems, other physical problems, you should see a doctor as well.Reduce portion size, make better food choices, exercise. Weight loss will be slow and steady.Stay away from Dr. Goode's remedies.

From someone who's tried every other product on the market over the last 25 years and then lost weight with absolutely no 'help' of any kind I can tell you to not waste your money. If you want to lose weight and keep it off you need to make some lifestyle changes, permanently. I've lost 79 pounds now, the old fashioned, hard way (diet and exercise). It can be done.....and man how empowering it is when you do it. You might wanna join us over at Weightloss Mom's for encouragement.

someone here is taking it, i can't remeber who though. i just remember a little blurb in a post somewhere. i would talk to your doc before taking it though especailly if you take any medications. the doc may have a food plan for you to try first before spending money on the pills. or they may just want to help monitor your progress, but definatly talk to the doc first.

I personally would not waste my money, believe me I've tried every diet pill on the market in the past and while I did lose a few pounds I always gained it back.
Take it from me, the best way is to cut portions, I love over 52 lbs just buy cutting out snacks (cake, candy, chips) and lessening my portions, I've been able to keep the weight off for almost 2 years.

Just my honest opinion I would not buy and definitely would not try it without consulting a doctor.
IMHO I feel that those diet pills and fads just don't work as well as changing eating habits. I lost 25 pounds in 3 months just by eating the "actual" serving size...Example: instead of just pouring some cereal in a bowl and then pouring milk over it I measured out the serving size of 3/4 cup cereal and then measured out the serving size of the milk. You can keep a diary of your calories daily. It takes a little work in the beginning but you would be saving money, you could eat whatever you liked in moderation and lose weight too.
I just don't trust all the drugs and things that are out there now. The Weighloss Moms Forum sounds like a nice place to get some encouragement.Donna F.

Wow, Im going to stick my neck out and say that I am takeing it. I think some of you have the wrong idea of what this pill is and what it does. The actual pill doesnt make you lose any weight. What is does is stop your body from being able to digest 30% of the fat you eat. It requires you follow a very strict diet and fitness program. You have to eat right or it will cuase the runs. You have to eat very balanced. If you eat more then your allowed amount of fat per meal, its based on eating the same amount at each meal no piging out at one meal and then starving the rest of the day. SO if you think that you can eat what ever you want and take this pill to lose weight you are wrong. I have lost 4 pounds in 9 days and I did it myself by eating right but the Alli pill has given me that extra boost.
Alli does not boost your metabolism or give you energy. IT not like any other diet pill on the market. Go to myalli.com and you can get a lot of answers.

I was not speaking to you. I was stating my opinion. All medications have side effects. In my opinion the safest and healthiest way to lose weight is with diet changes and modifications, as well as exercise. I feel lifestyle changes offer the best chance at maintaining weight loss as well. I wish you success on your weight loss goal.

You are correct that is the safest and healthiest way, its also the only way you are going to keep it off. For me the potential side effects ( there are none known as of yet ) couldnt be worse then the side effects I am haveing as a result of being overweight. I am not giant or gross by any means but my self esteem suffer greatly and that inturn is affecting my family.

Difficulty absorbing certain nutrients is a risky side effect to me,vitamin or not. Having the potential to crap my pants would not help my self esteem and would be, for me, a devastating side effect.I think this stands though, to be a big, big moneymaker for the company. They have spent millions on the campaign and I'm sure they know their target consumer. If your doctor has given it the okay and it helps you who is anyone to question?KWIM? Just opinions.

update- after weeks into it I have realized that I dont see the differnce. The plan tells you to eat 500calories and 15 grams off fat per meal. So why dont I just eat 400 calories and 10grams off fat per meal and forget the pill? Would nt I have the same weightloss results and save myself the 50 bucks.

I was looking into this a while back...the clinical trials for this drug were only 16 weeks!! not nearly enough IMO to determine any long-term side effects.
I can't help but think of the phen-fen fiasco a few years ago.Last edited by YankeeMom; 07-06-2007 at 12:49 PM.

Yes, exactly what I was thinking! Why spend the money for Alli, when you can just consume less fat? I have lost 24 pounds in two months by reducing the fat and counting calories. There is no "magic pill" when it comes to weight loss. It is a matter of "calories in vs. calories used".
