Anybody's family have tics and/or ADHD?
My son started having tics like throat clearing and eye rolling with some ADHD symptoms at around age 8 years old. Anybody have this same problem, or know anybody dealing with this? Any help would be appreciated, including vitamins, etc. to give to my son. Thanks.

Tics and throat clearing can sometimes be Tourette's. I think there may be meds for this, but I'm not sure. I would call his pediatrician.

The PANDAs stuff is definitely a possibility. I would also suggest reading Kenneth Bock's newest book called HEaling the New Childhood Epidemis: Autism ADHD, Asthma, and Allergies. For my daughter, diet helps a huge amount - she is generally gluten free, casein free and I try to keep the dyes out as much as I can (red is a killer). The diets are doable even if some say they are difficult. Is your son having any other issues - stomach problmes, headaches, etc? One good thing to have him on is probiotics as well.

Yes, my son was diagniosed with ADHD around age 7 ~ runs in the family ~ very interesting how it can affect one, but skip one, but catch another -
but anyway - yes, he also has had tics - eye blinking, jaw opening/popping, picking at his fingers, etc. No 'tic' has ever lasted more than 5 months or so - and he seems to have outgrown them at this point - he will still pick at his fingers/fingernails, but the doctor thinks that this too shall pass in time -

I should also add: there was never any doubt that my son was a bit on the hyper side - these weren't issues that just appeared one day out of the blue - even his 3 year old pre-k teacher tried to tell me ~
so....... my point is: if your son is 8 years old and just now displaying ADHD symptoms - it may not be ADHD at all ~Don't Breed or Buy While Shelter Pets Die
