Default Health Insurance in NY state....need advice

DH is changing jobs by the end of August.
We will be losing the health insurance he has
through that comapany. He will also be taking
less pay & lsoing comapany vehicle & gas card,
so costing us more to have the new job.

Can anyone give any advice on health insurance
in Ny state? We've taken it for granted all these years
& can see that in this system we need to have some kind
    of hospital coverage.
Our 2 DD's have limited coverage through their college's .
DH has to have some kind of coverage because he rides a motorcycle.
Our car insurance agent said not to be w/out health ins. if you have
a bike, as they are not insured the same as autos w/injury liability

I do have a few leads. Just wondering how any one else experienced
    this kind of transition.

Before I was married I was on NYS health plus, i think it was called. I payed about $130 a month which isn't too bad. It was for people who didn't have insurance thru their employer.

    Try googling healthy N.Y.
Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance.

    Thanks!

2 different families I know have had to get their own
health ins. & tell me they are paying $10,000/yr!

The Healthy NY program seems way more affordable.

In NY, as previoiusly mentioned, there is a program called Family Health Plus
Family Health Plus is a public health insurance program for adults who are aged 19 to 64 who do not have health insurance - either on their own or through their employers - but have income or resources too high to qualify for Medicaid. Family Health Plus is available to single adults, couples without children, and parents with limited income who are residents of New York State and are United States citizens or fall under one of many immigration categories.
Family Health Plus provides comprehensive coverage, including prevention, primary care, hospitalization, prescriptions and other services. There are minimal co-payments for some Family Health Plus services. Health care is provided through participating managed care plans in your area.
There is also Healthy NY for those who don't qualify income-wise for Family Health Plus.
The Health Care Reform Act of 2000 introduced a program entitled "Healthy NY" which promotes access to quality health care by providing comprehensive health insurance to those citizens who need it most.
The Healthy NY program is designed to assist small business owners in providing their employees and their employees’ families with the health insurance they need and deserve. In addition, uninsured sole proprietors and workers whose employers do not provide health insurance may also purchase comprehensive coverage directly through the Healthy NY program.
All HMOs in New York State offer the streamlined, yet comprehensive Healthy NY health insurance benefit packages to eligible businesses and individuals. Healthy NY includes health benefits that cover essential health needs including inpatient and outpatient hospital services, physician services, maternity care, preventative health services, diagnostic and x-ray services, and emergency services. Applicants may now choose a benefit package with a limited prescription drug benefit or a benefit package without a prescription drug benefit.
Although Healthy NY is available to small employers, sole proprietors, and uninsured working individuals, each group has its own set of eligibility criteria and participation rules. It is suggested when using this site that you first determine which category you fall into based upon your own personal circumstance. Once you have identified your category, you may then proceed to the appropriate heading to review the applicable rules and criteria.
It may be an option for you during this time of transition.

I actually went on Healthy NY after I graduated. It's also a great program for recent entries to the work force without a steady income (people who are "between" health insurance plans). I would definitely check it out.
