DD has chickenpox and I'm pregnant..Help!!
DH is on the phone trying to find out if he needs to take her to the ER or wait till morning. But, I'm pregnant, never gotten them and there's all sorts of rsks with chicken pox and pregnancy. Anyone know how long it lasts usually? Think we should expose DS to it so he gets it now? I thought about DD going to my granny's so DH won't have to miss work, he's in the Army, so it's hard for him to stay home. But I can't risk anything happening to me or the baby, I'm all confused. If DS ends up with them while she's at granny's, he will have to stay home and granny is too old to watch 2 kids. Ugh. We don't know hwo to handle this, I've never been around chicken pox.

If she's at the point where she has broken out in the spots, you and ds have already been exposed. Does your ob/gyn have a number you can call that will connect you to an onsite nurse? I would call that and see what they recommend. I would also recommend you call your doc tomorrow.

Ya, I agree, you've already been exposed. I'd call the Dr. tomorrow and see that they recommend.

I got chickenpox when I was pregnant with #2. DS and I had them and we were miserable ! I had them EVERYWHERE ~ mouth, bottom of feet, you name it.
At that time (1984), my ob said it wasn't a problem unless I ran a fever (I didn't) or was close to delivery with an active case (I was 2 months away and still had sores but was not active). It was awful ~ I spent all kinds of time in the shower trying to get relief.
The docs said my DD may have gotten them in utero, there was no way to tell but she didn't as she had them really bad in the 4th grade just as we were getting ready to move
If I were you, I would call my ob and see what he/she has to say ~ at least it will ease your mind.Nancy

I would not expose any child purposely to chicken pox! If your son does not pick it up, how about getting him the vaccine for it? It's readily available at the doctor's office.

Not to scare you but, chicken pox went around our school a few years ago. My cousin, in her late 30's, got it from her kids. She spent almost 2 weeks in intensive care, several days in an induced coma. She still has problems speaking because of the tubes put down her throat while she was in the hospital.
Now for your kids, when my youngest got chicken pox, she was about 2 y/o and still in diapers. She had them really bad, especially under her diaper. I had went to my mom's for a break while hubby watched the kids and one of my relatives called and told me to give her a bath in Selson Blue (dandruff shampoo). I put about 1/4 of the bottle in the running bath water and it made great bubbles that she loved. It also dried out her skin REALLY bad, which helped a ton with the pox. My relative had told me that their doc had recommended to do that and it worked great.
I hope all is well with you all. Being pregnant, I'd be in close contact with your doctor during this time.

Well, it's not chicken pox, some other kind of virus, but they don't know what. They said for me to just tell my OB at my next appt, which is 3 weeks away....Ugh.

I would still call my ob, just so you don't worry yourself silly for 3 weeks.
Good Luck!!Robbin

I'd call the OB as well - they may move your appt up a wk or two?
Also...just wondering - isnt chicken pox in adults called 'shingles' and when adults get it - its way more severe then a child having a case of the pox??2012: The Year Of The Purge!
