(((Hugs)))

Is this concerning DD? Did you use the small comb and really go throw the hair really, really good? Did you wash bed pillows? I remember going through this so many times......GRRRRRR.......I think they may still be on the hair shaft but are dead and then you are suppose to treat again in 14 days.
Don't be upset. I'm afraid if you put anymore on her scalp you will really irritate it.Donna F.

are you finding live bugs or the eggs? it's not unusual to find the eggs for a few days or even a week later. they are hard to see and easy to miss. just keep going through her hair.

Live bugs, well, they are bugs, but they are not moving. I haven't found any nits (eggs) yet. Her hair is really pale blond and hard to see anything white! I'm going out of my mind.
I've washed all the pillows, blankets, everything! All stuffed animals have been washed or treated!

Julie, as a last resort you can call her pediatrician. There is another medication that he/she has to prescribe. Tell them the situation and what you have done to remedy it and see if they can give you the prescription for the "tough" stuff.

My son had lice 3 years ago and he has a "cotton topped head". The lice could actually be dead and that the specks you see could be just that. I agree, if your "still not sure" contact the pediatrician. It took a few days after the second treatment to get the flakes and stuff out of his hair.
The twins had it at the same time. My son's hair was "buzzed cut" so it was easy to see and daughters hair was long at that time.
Call the pediatrician nurse and see what ideas she has for you. I know it's hard not to stress over it because we want our children to be free of stuff like this. It "will" go away.

I got the prescription kind from the doctor that I used to work with. I had to put it on her head, sleep in it, and rinse it out in the morning! We'll see how that works!

Our district sent home a letter last year on a new lice procedure due to the lice strains getting resistant to the medicated shampoos. My ds got lice for the 1st time sadly so we got to try it out. This is also the procedure we recomend to any clients. The idea is to 100% saturate the hair and scalp with oil or mauo and put a shower cap on and leave it a few hours. It suffocates any live bugs. When you are ready to remove saturate th oily mess with a clarifying shampoo or Dawn and massage in. Rinse and reshampoo. A rinse of vinegar on the hair strands helps to losen and remove any knits. Then follow with the knit comb. Also a metal knit comb works muck better than a plastic one. Any pharmacy should carry them. This procedure works really well and is much easier on the scapl than lots of chemicals.

When my kids had lice a few years ago, we cleaned EVERYTHING.Then after using olive oil to smother the live bugs,I took a fine toothed comb & sectioned the girls' hair & pulled nits & any baby bugs that I found...I did this routine 2X a day for about 2 weeks. It was alot of work, but my dds were so thankful that they didn't have to cut their hair, which at the time was waist length (longer now). The boys weren't as lucky.

Holy typos! I just re-read my post. It's supposed to read "apply oil or mayo".

I worked with kids where lice was a frequent problem for several years. Due to the resistance the bugs built up we used smothering methods as well as the shampoo and combed out the bugs. The biggest piece though was pulling the nits. We found (and the pediatrician that worked for us said it was the case as well) that NONE of the methods - smothering, shampoos, ect- kill the nits. The medicated shampoo leaves a residue that is suppose to kill them when they hatch. (never believe it) Every nit needs to be pulled and fingernails work much better than the combs. Some of my co-workers used a blacklight (they said it helped them see the nits better). It takes hours and hours. We would go through their head two or three times a day for at least a week after we pulled the last nit. It was definately one of the worst aspects of that particular job. I feel for ya. Hope this helps.

Crisco sounds great. Any heavy oily thing should work. I do not look forward to my job once school starts up again. I feel so bad getting say getting just a kids bangs cut and then having to stop (because it is state law) and tell a parent their kiddo has lice. Parents are always so upset. I tell them it can happen to anyone and it has happened to my kiddo too and not to be embarrassed.
