Results not as bad as I feared
Boy, that nurse really had me scared! I thought I was dying or something!
Anyway, turns out I do have a multinodular thyroid goiter, which isn't such a small thing. I have to go to an endicrinologist to get more tests to see if it's cancerous, but it's probably not.
The thing he was the most worried about, though, was my liver results. On three tests, it came out abnormal. Not drastically so, but still not in the normal range. We sort of figured this was because of all the OTC pain meds (Naproxen, Ibuprofen, Tylenol, Aspirin) I'm taking for my shoulder pain. He wants me to stop all the pain meds, and he gave me a prescription for something he said doesn't damage your liver.
I also have a kidney infection. I have noticed myself going a lot lately, but no pain or anything.
Everything else was low normal, but still within normal range. Strangely enough, my thyroid function was normal. The enlargement is causing pressure on my esophagus, and from what I've read online, I may have to have it removed.
So I feel better, but not great. I tried to make an appointment with the endocrinologist today, but they never called back.
I have high cholesterol, but he doesn't want to worry about that right now, he's more concerned with the liver.
I'm gonna do a liver cleanse and go on a very healthy diet, and see how it is in a month.

I'll be thinking of you. I've been through some of that - and it really can make a huge difference when your thyroid is functioning well. I learned the liver lesson so well that my doctor (who didn't know me back then) always comments on it - kind of a wierd compliment.
Anyway, good luck, and I hope you feel better soon. Also, ginger (like the cooking kind) seems to have some sort of pain-killer effect without doing liver damage. I slice little bits of candied ginger and put it in tea or on cookies or on salad.

Sorry to hear that your tests didn't come out as well as you'd have liked. I do know from experience that a screwed up thyroid will mess up the balance of your body. I've had it for a long time but now can't afford the meds to control it so if you find anything to hep I'd really like to hear about it. Keep your diet healthy and we'll all be here for ya when you need us

Did your Dr. say the liver cleanse is OK? I've heard some of those are so hard on your liver. ((HUG))

I have tried the liver cleanse, and it was too hard on me. Too much pain! I think I must have gallstones, because every time I even take senna laxatives, I get a terrible pain right where my gallbladder would be.
I'm going to start drinking my green tea with lemon and honey, and more herbal teas. Going to try to give up caffeine...hard. I'm also going to try milkthistle. It cleanses your liver with no bad side effects.
Coffee enemas will work also. I've done one or two of those before, and I felt better afterwards. I've been reading about how doing them for a week cleans your liver and gallbladder.

Coffee enema...
Yeah like last poster. thinking of you and a coffee enema. i guess i know the process but wonder. would you absorb caffeine that way and could that be dangerous. or would you use decaf...

Denny,
Actually, the caffeine is what makes the enema work, and yes, you do absorb it (even though they swear you don't, I was hyper for an hour after I did one). Anyway, it does make you feel better, so I may try it.
It's not the same as drinking coffee, because you aren't getting the other stuff, and it doesn't go through your digestive system, or your kidneys. It can make you pee like a racehorse, though! LOL
