    Default Interesting Sugar Statistic

    HI all!

Heard an interesting little statistic on the radio this morning. Seems that in the year 1800 the average American ate 7 lbs. of sugar for that year and in 2003 the average American ate 147 lbs of sugar for the year! No wonder that we are all overweight and have road rage! Granted 200 years ago sugar was very exspensive so not as available and there weren't the pre made foods which now pack ALOT of sugar. Still this really surprised me that we consume so much. It scares me to think how much Sodium we might also be consuming.

My friend recently also told me that he had read research comparing our corn consumption to that of Mexico. Even though their diets are much more corn-based, we were consuming significantly more corn products without realizing it because that's where much of our sugar comes from (corn syrup!). High fructose corn syrup is a particularly unhealthy (and as the name implies, concentrated) form of sugar. The use of this sweetener probably jacked up the sugar statistics too.

Wow, 7lbs in the past ...

Yep, that and ranch dressing aren't condiments, lol, they're whole food groups of their own here!
