Default I'm in Alot of Pain!

I think maybe I'm a big baby. I got a crown put on my tooth the Monday after Thanksgiving. I had pain the whole 2 wks I had the tempory(sp) one on. I took Excedrin around the clock. I had to have it dumbed just to glue the crown down. I could still feel it. Well the pain starts in my tooth and moves to my ear and face and finally to my head. I get a very bad headache if I don't keep on the pills. The dentist took xrays and doesn't see anything wrong. I had an onlay done and it took almost a year for my mouth to get rid of that pain. Cool compresses feel pretty good and help to ease it some. The dentist didn't want me to take excedrin so I tried tylenol like she said and it didn't work. She polished some of my other teeth. This pain really reminds me of when I had braces and would get them tightened. I might just have to go back and see her again. Anyone else go througth this or have any ideas.?

Did they adjust your bite to make sure your teeth aren't hitting together differently? A slight change in bite can be enough to cause pain. Do you grind your teeth at night? Sometimes after a restoration (crown, filling, onlay, etc.), pain shows up from grinding even when you didn't feel it before.

    Hope you find some relief!

It sounds like there's something going on that they are not finding. I had a crown put in about a year ago and had absolutely no pain. In fact, I find the crown more comfortable than the tooth itself. You may want to have another dentist look at it.

Hope you feel better. There's nothing worse than mouth pain.

I had mine done and then about a month later, it really was hurting, then went away. Then I had another episode. Sometimes I think it is when I do real cold to hot, or vice a versa.

I had two crowns put on in March, to the tune of 900.00 each. (no insurance either.) I had quite a bit of pain for over a week and then it settled. I did have to go back for them to file it down because the bite was off and I kept hitting my bottom teeth with it.

You know though, one of those teeth starting hurting like heck two weeks ago, it turned out I needed a root canal. I'm in the process of getting dentures, so we just had the tooth pulled. 900.00 totally thrown away! Grrr.

I do hope the pain eases up for you and I think I'd have another dentist take a look at it. You can't keep feeling terrible day after day.

My daughter just had two crowns done in the last three months. She had alot of pain like you with the last one and the dentist said it was a nerve that needed to heal and it would eventually stop.

Hope you feel better soon. DD's did stop after about two weeks.

I think maybe I'm getting better. I only took pain meds twice yesterday. Today I've only had 1 pill. It feels soooooo much better. I do hope this is a good sign. I suppose to go back at the end of the month to have it glued for good. By then i hope to be be pain free.

I had an expensive root canal and crown 2 years ago. The next year that tooth started absessing and I used every herbal remedy I could find on the net to help me make it till we had dental insurance again. Finally went to take care of it and the surgeon who took it out said that failed root canals are his best customers. He said that for a great deal many people they don't make it 5 years. If I need another one I will skip the root canal and have them pull it and then get a post.
However, through my experience with dealing with dental pain, I did discover that the best thing was drinking ginger tea. Ginger is a pain killer and germ killer. I hope you feel better! Tooth pain just takes over everything.

When I got my crown my mouth was just sort of sore or bruised.
I kept telling my doc but he never found a thing.
Finally after 2 weeks it went away.

Hope you are feeling better. When your mouth hurts it takes over your life. At least for me it does.

Did you have a root canal on the tooth before they put the crown on? Your pain sounds like mine when I needed a root canal. The pain went away after the root canal, however the gum was sensitive after that for a long time (tender sensitive, but not pain!).

I like the suggestion for ginger tea, I have mouth pain almost every week from any number of my teeth and I might try that to ease the pain, I can only take Tylenol and I agree it doesn't help much, if any for tooth pain!

Thanks for the tip about ginger tea. I like using natural stuff rather than medicine. I'm feeling much better now PTL!. I go back on the 27 of this month to have glued in for good. No root canal so far. I do have one and it was done about 1 1/2 yrs ago. I have'nt had any trouble so far with that one.
